Using VMware

There are a number of integrations available between IBM Storage Virtualize and VMware that whilst not essential, will improve the overall functionality and provide a better user experience.

IBM Storage Virtualize plugin for vSphere

The IBM Storage Virtualize plugin for vSphere is based on VMware's Remote plugin architecture, and facilitates provisioning and management of IBM Storage from within the vCenter UI. The plugin and associated workflows are integrated into the vCenter user interface and allows a vSphere administrator to remotely perform administrative or maintenance actions across multiple storage systems. For more information on vSphere plugin, see https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/svpfv.

IBM Storage Virtualize Family - Storage Replication Adapter (SRA)

The IBM® Storage Virtualize Family Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) is a software add-on that integrates with the VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) solution to run Disaster Recovery failover scenarios with supported storage systems. For more information on SRA, see https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/spectrumvirtual-sra.

IBM VASA Provider for vSphere Virtual Volumes

The vSphere Virtual Volumes (vVol) framework is built upon vSphere APIs for Storage Awareness (VASA). These APIs provides tight integration, orchestration and automation between vSphere and the underlying storage system through a VASA provider which is embedded within supported storage platforms.

For more information on vVol, see the following page.
