Updating drive firmware

You can update a drive by downloading and applying firmware updates.

Procedure

  1. To update drive firmware for all drives or selected drives by using the management GUI, select Pools > Internal Storage > Actions > Upgrade All or Upgrade.
    Note:
    • You can also update individual drives by selecting one or more drives.
    • The system only upgrade drives that need upgrading.

Each drive upgrade will take approximately 6 minutes. To monitor the progress of the upgrade, select Monitoring > Background Tasks.

  2. In the Test and Update Drives screen, select Test and Update or Test Only option.
    Note:
    • The above "Upgrade Test Utility" requirement only applies to 8.4.2 release onwards.
    • The above test is mandatory to be performed to update the drive firmware successfully.
    • If Test and Update option is selected, the upgrade process is allowed to proceed anyway even if some drives fail the test. In this case, the upgrade process will skip those drives and upgrade the drives that passed the test.
  3. Upload the update Test Utility Package and the Drive Firmware Package from the Support site.
  4. Ensure the check box is not selected. This ensures that the system only upgrades drives, and does not attempt to downgrade them.
