Installation roadmap

FileNetĀ® P8 requires a robust environment of integrated software, such as databases, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) servers for access configuration, application severs, and multiple required or optional server and client components in the FileNet P8 family. This interdependence calls for preparation and collaboration with the administrators in your environment to configure the infrastructure and record the relevant details for the FileNet P8 installation and setup.

The following roadmap presents a version of the preparation and installation steps, using the installation worksheet, that you can use as a model for your FileNet P8 setup process:
  1. Read the whole Plan and Prepare section, and make the following decisions:
    • Which administrators and team members in your organization to designate for the different administrative roles and tasks
    • Which installation scenario is most relevant and useful for your needs
  2. Use the filters on the Installation worksheet to sort out the setup details that are needed for your installation based on the server types and base software products that you're preparing.
  3. Complete the tasks to prepare for installation. These tasks are likely to be performed by several different administrators. Your installation team can use the worksheet as a collaborative record to gather all the settings you will need for the configuration tool that you run after you install. For example, the worksheet provides a place for the database administrator to provide tablespace names and connection details.
    1. Set up the application server that will deploy Content Platform Engine.
    2. Set up the directory server accounts for all of the roles and users your environment requires.
    3. Create databases to contain the Content Platform Engine object stores.
  4. Install the software by using the installation tools.
  5. Using the detailed settings that were recorded in the worksheet by the administrators during the preparation tasks, fill out and run the setup tasks in the Configuration Manager tool. These tasks configure your system and prepare it for use.
