Monitoring system health
IBM® Enterprise Content Management System Monitor automates the monitoring of the entire IBM enterprise content management environment including FileNet P8 software components, application servers, databases, log files, network communication and devices, and the full range of FileNet P8 storage repositories. While IBM System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management is a performance monitoring tool that tracks information such as application-specific events, ECM System Monitor continually monitors the health of IBM enterprise content management components and alerts administrators to critical errors. In addition to monitoring the core FileNet P8 components, the system monitor can monitor custom applications and products that are provided by other companies.
The system monitor notifies you in real time about critical and unrecoverable problems before they negatively affect your users. The system monitor can also identify potential problems that might arise, enabling you to take preventive action before an outage occurs. The result is greater customer satisfaction and increased system uptime that results in better meeting your Service Level Agreements. In addition, the system monitor automates over 75 manual administrative tasks, enabling you to increase administrator productivity.
The system monitor enables operators to handle FileNet P8 environments without having in-depth knowledge of, and root access to, the application itself. Automation mechanisms and knowledge provided by the system monitor allow problems to be solved by operations and first level support departments while easing the burden for second-level support departments. The application specialists in second- level support can focus their efforts on the further development and optimization of FileNet P8 components, instead of doing unproductive routine work in daily administration, which adds little value to the business.
By using IBMFileNet APIs, the system monitor provides inbound monitoring of more than 600 system and performance parameters across the FileNet P8 platform. The inbound monitoring provides detailed health status of individual FileNet P8 components that goes far beyond general system status (up or down).
The system monitor provides a knowledge base for error conditions that are detected by the monitoring or the log file management. This information can contain a description of the error cause and a potential corrective action. The information is obtained from IBM FileNet documentation and procedures in operating FileNet P8 .
The system monitor provides reports to analyze historical event data, for example, for capacity planning or quality management. Reports can be created on demand or be provided as standard reports to identify trends in the FileNet P8 environment. The event data can also be analyzed by standard reporting tools.
