Working with document objects
- Viewing a document
You can view a document in an object store by using a client application, such as IBM® Content Navigator. You can use the administration console to view a document object without downloading any content. - Downloading a document
You can download a document in an object store by using a client application, such as IBM Content Navigator. You can use the administration console to download a document object. - Adding a document
You can add a document to an object store by using a client application, such as IBM Content Navigator. You can use the administration console to add a document object without uploading any content. - Checking out a document
You check out a document in one of the following modes: exclusive or collaborative. In collaborative mode, anyone with the appropriate permissions can check in the document or cancel the checkout. - Determining the reservation type
A document can be checked out, or reserved, exclusively or collaboratively. - Checking in or saving a document
Check in a document to add another version of the document to the object store. The new version is added as either a major version or as a minor version. You can add content elements to the document as part of the checkin. - Filing a document
You can file one or more documents in multiple folders. The item is not duplicated in each folder, but instead, each folder contains a reference to the same item. The document can be edited from any of the locations. - Unfiling a document
A document can be filed in one or more folders. Unfiling a document from a folder removes the reference to the document from that folder. The document itself is not deleted. - Promoting a document version
Promoting a minor version converts it into the released major version. - Demoting a document version
Demoting the major released version of a document converts it into the current in process minor version, and sets the most recent superseded major version, if one exists, as the released major version. - Freezing the custom properties of a version
Freezing the custom properties of a version prevents changes to its otherwise modifiable custom properties. The system-maintained properties of a frozen document version are updated by the system as necessary. - Deleting a document version
You can delete one or more versions of a document. If the deleted version is the reservation (that is, the checked-out version), deleting the reservation version is the same as canceling the check-out. - Deleting a document
You can delete a document along with all its versions and all references to it. - Managing document content elements
A document object contains zero or more content elements. Each element is either a file or a reference to a file. - Managing compound documents
