Setting up host encoding preferences for MVS Files

You can set up host encoding preferences for MVS files.

  1. In IBM Explorer for z/OS, click Window > Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences window, open the Host Encoding table by typing Host Encoding in the filter or by clicking Remote Systems > z/OS > MVS Files > Host Encoding.
The Host Encoding table displays all the MVS host encodings with the following mapping types:
    • Default: refers to the default host encoding.
    • Custom: refers to the user-customized host encoding. For information about how to customize host encodings, see next step.
  3. You can customize the host encoding by adding, removing, or restoring it:
    • To add a host encoding: click Add in the Preferences window, enter a name for the new host encoding, and then click OK. The new encoding name must include alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and mapping cannot end with a hyphen. All characters are converted to uppercase.
    • To remove a customized host encoding, click Remove in the Preferences window. You cannot remove default host encodings.
    • To display only default host encoding in the Host Encoding table, click Restore Defaults in the Preferences window.
  4. To check all the default and custom encodings, right-click the MVS resources from the Remote Systems view, and then click Properties.
1 For IDz users, the MVS Files subsystem Properties view also displays the following information:
Property Group Name
The name of the property group that is associated with the subsystem.
Property Group Overrides
Whether any values in the property group were overridden: Yes or No.
