Hybrid method

The hybrid method combines supplier-specific activity data, when available, and secondary data to cover data gaps, to provide a more accurate and comprehensive estimate of emissions.

The hybrid method involves collecting scope 1 and scope 2 emissions data directly from suppliers, and also calculating upstream emissions on goods and services based on the following items:
  • Supplier activity data on the amount of materials, fuel, and electricity used and the distance transported
  • Waste that is generated from the production of goods and services
The hybrid method then uses secondary data to calculate upstream emissions for goods and services where supplier-specific data is not available.

The hybrid method provides a more accurate and comprehensive estimate of emissions because it combines the strengths of both the supplier-specific and spend-based methods. However, the method can be challenging to implement because it requires significant data collection and analysis efforts from both the company and its suppliers. Also, the method can require significant resources and time to establish and maintain relationships with suppliers.

When you submit the supplier emissions survey or load bulk supplier emissions, the Envizi™ Supply Chain Intelligence automatically calculates hybrid factors. You can also directly import custom hybrid factors. For more information, see Creating custom hybrid factors.
