Creating data mappings

The data mapping feature enables you to create transformation rules for ingesting data in custom formats. You can use these data mappings during the data import process.

Before you begin

Review the data dictionary and prepare your CSV files. For more information about the CSV file format, see Sample files.

About this task

The data mapping library contains a list of all your organization's data mappings. Data mappings that are in the active status can be added to your import jobs. Data mappings that are in the inactive status are visible in the library for editing but cannot be added to import jobs.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation menu, click Data management.
  2. In the Create section, click Create new mapping.
  3. In the Name field, enter the name for the data mapping.
  4. Review the logical name.
This value is automatically generated based on the text that you enter in the Name field, but you can change the logical name until you save the data mapping for the first time. The logical name must be a unique name.
  5. In the Description field, enter a brief description of the data mapping.
  6. Optional: Set the data mapping to Active.
You can also activate the data mapping later. Only activated data mappings are available for selection during import jobs.
  7. Optional: If you want to change the default CSV file export settings, expand the Additional settings and update the fields.
You can change the default character set, delimiter, locale, timezone, and text qualifier values to your required values.
  8. Click Configure.
  9. Click Upload test file to upload a CSV file.
  10. Make sure that the input attributes are aligned correctly with object type and attribute. If the alignment is incorrect, then manually select the correct object type and attribute.
The four lines next to the object type and attribute indicate the suggestion score. Maximum lines indicate a stronger match, while fewer lines indicate a weaker match.
  11. Click the overflow menu and then click Activate. Also, you can add or remove a row, use calculation, or add additional mapping to refine your output.
  12. Click Preview and select the data object types that you want to preview and download the canonical file version of your test files' data.
  13. Click Save.

What to do next

If you did not activate the mapping, open the Data mapping library and activate the new data mapping to use it during the data import process.
