Emissions calculations in Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence
To calculate emissions, IBM® Envizi™ Supply Chain Intelligence first uses the most recent supplier-specific data. Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence then falls back on previously calculated data, and then creates new data if needed. Finally, if no data is available, Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence marks the order as unaccounted.
When it ingests an order line, Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence uses the following decision flow
to calculate emissions:
- Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence first tries to use a supplier-specific product carbon footprint (PCF) for the specific product in the order line.
- If the supplier hasn't provided a PCF, Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence looks for a per-unit emissions factor that was calculated earlier for the same product from the same country within the same period, such as a month. The per-unit emissions factors might be based on the hybrid method, the average-data method, or the spend-based method. For more information, see Emissions calculation methods.
- If Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence can't find a previous calculation, it creates a new per-unit emissions factor for the product based on its source location.
- If Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence can't find or create an emissions factor, it marks the order
as
Unaccounted for spend
, because the emissions for the order can't be calculated.
