Configuring meters used in ESPM metrics calculations

ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager uses meters that are included in the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Meters - Used to Compute Metrics list to calculate metrics, such as the ENERGY STAR score. In Envizi™ ESG Suite, you can configure a combination of account and meter tags, and location and organization configuration settings, to determine which meters are included in the Meters - Used to Compute Metrics list after an API sync.

Before you begin

IBM® ESG Suite requires full access permissions to all meters in an ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager property, even if the meters are not synced with or connected to Envizi ESG Suite, for example, historical meters and submeters. If Envizi ESG Suite does not have full access permissions to all meters, it cannot manage the Meters - Used to Compute Metrics and Additional Meters - Not Used in Metrics lists, and an API sync is likely to fail with a 403 Access-Denied response from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. For more information about permission settings, see the related link to the ENERGY STAR permissions FAQ.

About this task

By default, all accounts and meters that are synced from Envizi ESG Suite to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager are placed in the Meters - Used to Compute Metrics list in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. Similarly, by default, all meters that are not synced from Envizi ESG Suite to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager are placed in the Additional Meters - Not Used in Metrics list.

Envizi ESG Suite accounts or meters that are synced with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager By default, the meters are placed in the Meters - Used to Compute Metrics list after an API data sync, for both full and partial sync. To place a meter in the Additional Meters - Not Used in Metrics list in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager after an API sync, apply the following tag to the Envizi ESG Suite account or meter:
  • Tag type: EnergyStar - Generic
  • Tag: Include in Sync but send to EnergyStar Not Used in Metrics list
If you apply the tag, the consumption data in the Envizi ESG Suite account or meter is still sent to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, but the meter itself is placed in the Additional Meters - Not Used in Metrics list in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager after the API data sync.
Existing meters in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager that are not synced with Envizi ESG Suite By default, the meters are placed in the Additional Meters - Not Used in Metrics list after an API data sync, for both full and partial sync. Configure the EnergyStar - Treatment of other meters in ESPM after API data sync organization flag to one of the following settings:
  • Move other meters to ESPM Not Used in Metrics list (default)
  • Keep other meters in their existing list

The organization setting applies to all locations in your organization. You can overwrite the behavior for any location by changing the same flag for the location in the ENERGY STAR Location Settings page.

If you set the EnergyStar - Treatment of other meters in ESPM after API data sync flag to Keep other meters in their existing list, meters are retained in either the Meters - Used to Compute Metrics list or the Additional Meters - Not Used in Metrics list, depending on where they are before the API sync.

Procedure

For more information about the options in the following steps, see Table 1.

  • At an organization level, configure the meters that are used to calculate metrics in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
    1. From the Envizi ESG Suite main menu, click Admin > ENERGY STAR Settings.
    2. Select the required option from the list and then save.
  • At a location, configure the meters that are used to calculate metrics in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
Location level settings override organization level settings.
    1. At a location, click Benchmark > Energy Star Location Settings.
    2. Select the required option from the Treatment of other meters in ESPM after API data sync list and then save.
