Running the Scenario Modeler Tool

Run scenario modelling on your candidate sustainability programs to see the impact of planned sustainability, energy, or financial actions into the future. Use the Scenario Modeler Tool to aid your decision making.

Before you begin

Review the data prerequisites before your run the report for the first time.

About this task

The Scenario Modeler Tool is a PowerReport.
Note: All values in the tool are converted to a single global reporting unit rather that use the local unit that is specified during data entry. The reporting units of emission, energy, and cost are determined global reporting unit settings of your organization. If the global reporting units are not set, then default reporting unit would apply:
  • Emissions use metric tons
  • Energy uses GJ
  • Cost uses USD

Procedure

  1. From the main menu, click Report > PowerReports to open the Reports grid.
  2. Select Scenario Modeler Tool from the list of Reports to open it.
  3. Configure the model parameters.
    1. Choose the model type.
Choose whether to base your modelling on Emissions, Energy, Cost, or Native Units.
    2. Set the baseline period for the model.
Select one year as the baseline year to use when calculating future Business-as-usual forecast (BAU) and target consumption levels.
    3. Set the expected percentage of annual BAU percentage of group in your data based on the baseline year.

The assumed BAU percentage indicates the expected future outcome of if no sustainability programs were planned.

    4. Set the expected targeted reduction on the selected dimension in comparison to the baseline year.
    5. Set the time range of the model, which typically extends into the future. You can select any range, as long as you either have activity data for that range or estimated program savings that are captured for the time range.
  4. Set the model boundaries.
Set the locations or groups to include in the analysis. You can refine the boundaries by data type and by GHG scope.
  5. Select which programs, action plans, and actions to include in the scenario modelling.
    1. Select a program and action plan, and select actions based on action type, status, class, or activity
    2. Optional: Click Refine Selection to include or exclude individual actions.
  6. Review the model results.
The BAU line depicts the expected outcome if no sustainability programs are planned. It shows how your activity data might perform based on the BAU % increase that you specified in the model. The calculation is made by using the baseline year that you specified . The % increase is being calculated linearly each year.

The actual line shows the actual consumption data that was captured in the platform. The line represents real time activity data being reported when the modeler tool is run.

The target line shows the desired target values with a yearly reduction percentage from the baseline year. The target values are derived linearly year on year.

The expected after program line shows the expected estimated savings to be gained after the program is run. It is the BAU line minus the Programs Savings amount. The line should be close to the target line or if you want to exceed the target, it should run below the target line.

  7. Review the model details.
Determine how much the performance at each location deviates from its target, month by month. Review the actions and the raw details.
