Emissions inventory page

The Emissions Inventory page shows consumption and renewables across counties, states, locations, accounts, and months of data.

In the dashboard, subtotal columns show the distribution of voluntary or unbundled certificates before the next level is appropriated. After all voluntary certificates are appropriated, you see the total remaining electricity. Market-based emission factors are applied to the total electricity after the certificates are accounted for. Any over allocation of certificates are displayed. The end result of the calculation is a market-based emissions value and a location-based emissions value.

The data can be displayed at the region level or the group level.

The simplified view has the following columns:
FY Reporting Year
Presents the organization hierarchy. You can drill down from the international market, to country, to state, to location, to account, and finally to the monthly data. Alternatively, click Group to change the hierarchy to your grouping structure.
Total Consumption kWh
Total electricity consumption from both grid and on-site renewable sources.
Renewables kWh
Sum of on-site renewables, compliance & jurisdiction certificates, green power and voluntary certificates.
Remaining Electricity kWh
Grand total electricity after country certificates are applied. Market-based emissions are calculated by using this value.
Renewables Exported tCO2e
The emissions credit that is received from exporting renewable electricity to the grid.
Market-based Emissions tCO2e
Grand total market-based emissions value. It is calculated by subtracting the Renewables Exported kWh from the Subtotal - Market-based Emissions tCO2e column.
Location-based Emissions tCO2e
Grand total location-based emissions value. It is calculated by multiplying the Location-based Factor kgCO2e/kWh column by the Grid kWh field.
Renewables %
Renewables percentage is derived by dividing the total grid consumption and on-site renewable electricity consumption by all of the renewables, including on-site renewables electricity consumption.

These columns provide a breakdown of the allocation of voluntary certificates at each group and geographical level. Using this pivot table, you can drill down to an account to view monthly data.
Note: An error is displayed in the Grid kwH column in the detailed view if a location is found to have a total negative consumption for a 12-month reporting period. Expand the rows to find the location with the negative value.

In this case, the total consumption is set to zero. The report is unable to handle certificate allocation when the sum of all consumption across all accounts in a location is a negative value.

The detailed view includes the following columns that related to consumption, on-site renewables and bundled certificates:
FY Reporting Year
Presents the organization hierarchy. You can drill down from the international market, to country, to state, to location, to account, and finally to the monthly data. Alternatively, click Group to change the hierarchy to your grouping structure.
Total Consumption kWh
Total electricity consumption from both grid and on-site renewable sources..
On-site Renewables kWh
Total renewables that are generated and consumed on-site. For this category of electricity consumption to appear in the report, renewables must be correctly categorized in IBM® ESG Suite. Contact the IBM Envizi support team if your renewables are not displaying as expected.
Grid kWh
Total electricity purchased from the grid. This value is used to calculate location-based emissions.
Certificates - Compliance & Jurisdiction kWh
The amount of renewable electricity on the grid that has resulted from regional or national renewable energy programs. Compliance and Jurisdiction kWh was formerly known as the National Renewable Energy Quota.
Certificates - Green Power kWh
This field represents bundled renewable electricity purchased by the organization from an electricity retailer. Values are taken from grid electricity accounts that also contain green electricity consumption.
Note: This category only tracks bundled certificates. If certificates are purchased using the Electricity - Green [kWh] data type but in a separate account from grid electricity, they are not included in the report.
Subtotal - Bundled Certificates
Subtotal after compliance and bundled certificates are applied to grid consumption. The calculation is:
Subtotal - Bundled Certificates kWh = Grid kWh - Compliance & Jurisdiction kWh - Green Power kWh
Voluntary or unbundled certificates are allocated to the grid consumption after a prorated methodology is applied. The detailed view contains the following columns in relation to voluntary certificates:
Location Certificates kWh
Represents unbundled certificates purchased separately from electricity but attributed to a single location. Values captured in an account for location certificates allocate certificates proportionally across all electricity accounts at the site after the Compliance & Jurisdiction and Green Power quantities are removed from consumption.
Subtotal - Location
The calculation is:
Subtotal - Location kWh = Subtotal - Bundled Certificates kWh - Certificates - Location kWh
Note: Envizi ESG Suite applies special handling of negative values. For more information, see Allocating certificates.
Level 3 Group Certificates kWh
Certificates that are captured in a location that is a member of a level 3 group. The are proportionally allocated to all accounts and locations within the group.
Subtotal - Level 3 Group kWh
Subtotal after Level 3 Group Certificates are applied.
Level 2 Group Certificates kWh
Certificates that are captured in a location that is a member of a level 2 group. The are proportionally allocated to all accounts and locations within the group.
Subtotal - Level 2 Group kWh
Subtotal after Level 2 Group Certificates are applied.
Level 1 Group Certificates kWh
Certificates that are captured in a location that is a member of a level 1 group. They are proportionally allocated to all accounts and locations within the group.
Subtotal - Level 1 Group kWh
Subtotal after Level 1 Group Certificates are applied.
State Certificates
Certificates that are captured in a location that is within a state or province.
Subtotal - State
Subtotal after State Certificates are applied.
Subtotal - Country
Subtotal after Country Certificates are applied.
Organization Certificates
Certificates that are captured in a location that is within an international business region of AMER, EMEA or APAC. They are proportionally allocated to all accounts and locations within the business region.
Remaining Electricity kWh
Grand total after Country Certificates are applied. Market-based emissions are calculated using this value.
Certificates Over Allocation kWh
This value represents any over allocation of certificates where the amount of certificates exceed a subtotal (electricity kWh that are uncovered by certificates).
Note: In Envizi ESG Suite, the over allocated certificates are not reallocated.
The detailed view contains the following columns that relate to factors and emissions:
Custom Factor kgCO2e/kWh
Refers to the custom factors that are collected by an organization. The factors are assigned to a region for a specific time period. They supersede residual mix and location-based factors if they are available when market-based emissions are calculated.
Residual Mix Factor kgCO2e/kWh
Residual mix factors are used in market-based emission calculations if a supplier or contract factor doesn't exist. They are managed byEnvizi ESG Suite and are updated each year.
Location-based Factor kgCO2e/kWh
Refers to grid-average emission factors. These factors are used in market-based emissions calculations only if the custom factor and residual mix factors columns are empty. This factor is also used in location-based emissions reporting.
Subtotal - Market-based Emissions tCO2e
The output of Remaining Electricity kWh multiplied by the most precise available market-based factor, beginning with a custom factor, follow by the residual mix factor, and finally if neither of those factors are available, then the location-based factor.
Renewables Exported kWh
Captures renewable electricity generated on-site and exported to the grid and that is not associated with certificates. For this category of electricity to appear in the report the data type under which your exported electricity is captured must be correctly categorized in Envizi ESG Suite. Contact the Envizi support team if renewables are not displaying as expected.
Renewables Exported tCO2e
Calculates the emissions credit received from exporting renewable electricity to the grid. The emission factor used for this is the negative grid-average emission factor.
Note: if your organization is generating certificates from the renewables generation and export, then the environmental attribute of the electricity export is conveyed through the handling of the certificate and should not be recorded here if:
  • The certificates are generated, retained, and retired, they should be applied to the organization using the voluntary allocation method.
  • The certificates are sold, the exported kWh should not be included in this report.
Market-based Emissions tCO2e
Grand total market-based emissions value. It is calculated by subtracting the Renewables Exported kWh from the Subtotal - Market-based Emissions tCO2e column.
Location-based Emissions tCO2e
Grand total location-based emissions value. It is calculated by multiplying the Location-based Factor kgCO2e/kWh column by the Grid kWh column.
MB Emissions Variance tCO2e
The difference between the market-based and location-based emissions. Negative values indicate lower market-based emissions.
Renewables %
Renewables percentage is derived by dividing the total grid consumption and on-site renewable electricity consumption by all of the renewables, including on-site renewables electricity consumption.
