PowerReports customization

The PowerReports functionality that IBM® Envizi ESG Suite provides uses Microsoft Embedded Power BI as a base. The functionality provides a flexible platform for creating your own purpose-built reports.

Microsoft provides a training course that is available at Microsoft Power BI Guided Learning. The course is based on Power BI Desktop, but the Analyze data with Power BI and Use Visuals in Power BI are relevant to PowerReports.

The functionality contains many options and flexibility, some of which might not be immediately apparent that you learn and refine over time and through use. The following information provides some clarification on features, and provides guidance on how you can apply the features in Envizi ESG Suite for your reporting needs.

Datasets

The primary dataset and report that is available for PowerReports is the monthly dataset which you can use as a starting point for any blank reports.

The survey dataset is a secondary dataset and is available for use with the surveys tool. use the survey dataset to retrieve data from the survey tool.

Visualizations

All reporting is completed through building up several visuals, which mainly consist of text boxes, images, graphs, tables, cards, buttons, and slicers.
Text boxes
Used to provide explanatory text, report instructions or introductions, and provide commentary on visualizations.
Images
  • Can be used for logos, section backgrounds, or as guidance images and screenshots for reference.
  • Directly inserting an image is not available in PowerReports. However, you can create a blank button and then add an image to it by using the Fill menu under the button format options.
Graphs and charts
  • Many options are available, including pie and donut charts, column and line charts, maps, and combinations of these charts.
  • Use the charts as needed to populate data, and to provide visual elements in your reports.
  • Dynamically modify the charts by using slicers, filters, and bookmarks.
Table and matrix
  • Use these in a similar way to displaying tabular data in Microsoft Excel.
  • The table is a flat 2-dimensional table, whereas the matrix is similar to a pivot table where you can group data in columns and rows.
  • You cannot edit the data in the tables and matrix visualizations live. The data feeds in from Envizi ESG Suite.
  • Dynamically modify the table and matrix visualizations by using slicers, filters, and bookmarks.
Cards
  • Use cards to dynamically show a single value, or multiple values sequentially if you use a multirow card.
  • Highlight specific data points that you want to be prominent.
  • Dynamically modify the cards by using slicers, filters, and bookmarks.
Buttons
  • Use buttons to navigate across tabs in a report, or if you have the bookmarks function enabled, navigate to specific bookmarked data.
  • Customize buttons with visual elements, hover states, dynamic formatting, and images.
Slicers
  • Use slicers to create an interactive filter on a page in a report.
  • Slicers are available as buttons, drop down boxes, tick boxes, or radio button lists.
  • Configure slicers to filter any visualizations on a tab, and sync across tabs if the visualizations exist in multiple tabs at once. Syncing options are available through the View > Sync slicers menu.
  • Modify how slicers or visualizations affect elements on the page through the “” Visual Interactions > > Edit Interactionsmenu options.
  • Typically, in slicers you can select multiple values by holding down the Ctrl button during selection.
