Meter serial number

A meter serial number must be unique across all organizations in IBM® Envizi ESG Suite. This requirement can be met by adding a user defined prefix to meter serial numbers.

Envizi ESG Suite uses the meter serial number as a unique identifier for all meters in the platform. This is typically not an issue for main utility meters which have a national or regional unique identifier, for example, NMI in Eastern Australia and MPAN in the UK. However, for sub meters, this can result in conflicts between meter serial numbers across different organizations or locations.

To avoid these conflicts, Envizi ESG Suite universal meter connectors require that meter serial numbers are prefixed with the following abbreviations:

  • An organization abbreviation
  • Optionally, a location abbreviation

The universal meter connectors enforce the serial number convention by using the file format that is expected by each connector, which concatenates the first two columns in the file to form the serial number, that is, the organization and the meter ID.

For example, consider a meter named MAIN.ELEC that is in the DemoOrg organization and SiteA location. A valid serial number for the meter is DemoOrg_SiteA_MAIN.ELEC, which would be loaded by using the file format that is shown in the following figure, with DemoOrg_SiteA in the Organization column, and MAIN.ELEC in the Meter ID column.
