Uploading varied data for varied account styles using a flat file

You can use the Flat File Format template to add or update varying fields for multiple account styles in a single file. The primary use of the template is for system-to-system account data transfer.

IBM® ESG Suite also provides the Account_Setup_and_Data_Load template for uploading data for varied account style fields, beyond simply primary measure and cost. However, separate files are required for each account style.

Figure 1 shows how the Account_Setup_and_Data_Load template can be used to create a file that provides electricity data in two records for fields such as Total KWh, Peak KWh and Off Peak KWh.

Figure 2 shows how the Account_Setup_and_Data_Load template can be used to create a second file that provides natural gas data for two records for fields such as Gas GJ and Total Cost.

With the Account Setup and Data Load template, separate files are required to populate varied fields for two different account styles.

Using the flat file format, you can specify data for varied account style fields of multiple account styles in a single file. The example in Figure 3 shows how the account style fields for each electricity record are presented on a separate row, followed by the account style fields for natural gas.

In the example, the first 5 rows represent record 1 and the second 5 rows represent record 2 for electricity. The last 2 rows represent record 1 for natural gas. Because the account style fields run vertically down the file, a single record might be presented across multiple rows in the flat file format. Where all of the following fields are the same across multiple rows in the file, the account style field labels and value information are loaded as a single record into the platform.
