Setting up ratio and rates

Ratios are metrics that compare a numerator to a denominator. It provides the amount of one material in proportion to another material. Ratios are also known as rates or intensities.

Before you begin

As a system administrator, you must have configured data type groups.

About this task

Some typical examples of ratios include the following:
  • Waste diversion rate
  • Energy intensity per floor area
  • Water consumed per unit produced
  • Emissions per person

For example, a waste diversion rate is typically defined as:

weight of recycled material / weight of recycled material + weight of land-filled waste

You must be a system administrator to set up ratios and rates.

Procedure

  1. From the main menu, click Admin > Set Ratios/Rates.
  2. Assign a name.
  3. Optional: Assign a caption.
If a caption is set, it is used instead of the name.
  4. Optional: Assign a description.
  5. Optional: Change how the ratio is presented on the UI by setting a scale value.
For example, for a waste diversion ratio, you might want to present the ratio as a percentage value so you would enter a Scale By of 100 to turn the values into a percent figure.
  6. Optional: Set the unit of measure that is reported out when viewing your Ratio in dashboards or reports.
In the waste direction example, you might set unit of measure to %.
  7. Optional: Set the order or sequence of the ratios in ratio drop down lists on dashboards.
  8. Select a data type group to use as the numerator in Numerator Measure Group.
  9. Select a data type group to use as the denominator in Denominator Measure Group.
  10. Click Save.

Rates are available for selection in the Rate Analysis dashboards. For more information, see Rate analysis dashboards.
