Loading account data in bulk

In IBM® Envizi ESG Suite, as a system administrator or general user, you can upload account data in bulk by using the universal account setup and data loading process.

With this process, you can use a spreadsheet-based report template or a flat file to create and modify account data in bulk. The following figure outlines the scenarios.

Populate the template with records for one or more accounts. When you upload data into the platform, if the accounts do not exist yet in the specified locations, the accounts are created as part of the data load.

Note: Although general users can't create or manage accounts in the user interface directly, if they provide data for new accounts as part of the bulk upload, the accounts are created as part of data loading.
The following scenarios are supported:
1. Upload data for a single account style
Use the Account Setup and Data Load template in the following scenarios:
  • Use the template for complex account styles. For example, an electricity account style might contain more than a primary quantity field and total cost. It might contain rules, several drop-down fields, and unit of measure conversions.
  • Use the template when the account style has more than a primary measure for quantity and cost. Each record is represented as a single row in the file.
  • Use the template when you plan to populate the file manually with data.
2. Upload primary measures and cost data for multiple account styles
For simple account styles, use the Account Setup and Data Load - PM&C template that allows you to upload data for multiple account styles in bulk. Simple account styles contain a primary measure and might also include total cost. A primary measure is represented as a quantity in the template. For example, the account style floor space and e-waste are seemingly unrelated but both capture quantity and cost. The primary measures are labeled as Quantity and Total Cost in the template. You can upload account data for varied account styles in a single file. The account styles must have only a single primary measure and optionally cost (PM&C). Each record is represented as a single row in the file.
3. Upload varied data for multiple account styles by using a flat file
For machine-to-machine interaction, use the Flat File Format template to update data for multiple account styles. The template serves a similar purpose to the Account Setup and Data Load - PM&C, expect that is optimized for machines and is not designed for human-readability. The flat file also allows you to configure more than primary measure and cost. In the flat file, you can configure various fields for multiple account styles. Each field is displayed in a separate row, which makes less suitable for humans to process.
