Use the Marginal Abatement Cost Curve (MACC) to compare and prioritize programs based on
cost and carbon abatement potential. The MACC curve represented here is designed to depict which
programs abate the most carbon and how much they cost relative to one another.
Before you begin
Ensure that you can access the Program Analysis worksheet in IBM® ESG Suite.
Procedure
-
Open the Program Analysis worksheet.
-
Review the MACC chart.
The chart shows:
- Left to right: increasing cost per kg CO₂ abated.
- Bar width: total abatement per program.
Programs on the left cost less per kilogram of CO₂ abated. Wider bars indicate higher total
abatement.
-
Compare initiatives side by side to decide which programs to scale, refine, or
deprioritize.
-
Set Program Status to Approved or
Draft to simulate governance scenarios.
-
View the programs adjusted baseline scenario.
Approved programs update the baseline in a new scenario that is called Baseline
Programs Adjusted. This new scenario adjusts your business as usual emissions based on
the programs and actions selected in the Program Setup worksheet. To see this change, navigate to
the Scenario Analysis worksheet.
