Getting started
Get started with Environmental Intelligence Suite by creating analytics in Geospatial Analytics, setting up custom dashboards in Dashboard Visualization, creating weather alerts in the Alerting application, building queries with Weather Data APIs data packages, and calculating your carbon emissions in Carbon Performance Engine.
About this task
Procedure
-
Create an IBMid. You can use your company email address for your IBMid.
- Log in to Environmental Intelligence Suite at the following URL: https://environmentalintelligencesuite.ibm.com.
-
Use the weather data API packages to query current and forecasted conditions, seasonal
forecasts, lifestyle indexes, severe weather, and historical weather for analysis.
For more information about forecast APIs, including resolutions, thresholds, and lengths, see Forecast APIs.
For more information about Weather Data APIs, including the number of API calls allowed per API key, see Weather Data APIs.
-
Query weather and environmental data sets from
Geospatial
Analytics. Create your queries by using the Geospatial Analytics API, Jupyter or Python Notebooks, a Python IDE, or any program that can submit HTTP requests. An API key is sent by email to every user who is authorized to access Geospatial Analytics. For more information about authenticating and retrieving an access token, see API authentication and Get a token.
-
Go to Dashboard
Visualization to access your dashboards. From the side menu, choose
Dashboard
visualizations > Dashboard. Build custom dashboards in Dashboard Visualization by using the dashboard builder. Customize the dashboards to include alerting panels, nonalerting panels, and a map of a service location.
-
Add assets from your asset management system to the map. Show the relationship with assets and your geospatial and environmental data on the map. For more information, see Adding assets.
- Calculate your internal carbon emissions and your supply chain emissions by using the Carbon Accounting APIs that are provided with the Carbon Performance Engine. For more information, see GHG Emissions APIs.
-
Create alert notifications for weather events in the Alerting
application. Log in from http://www.app.ibm.com by using your IBMid.Set up alert notifications:
- Add contacts and assets by uploading a JSON configuration file or a CSV file in the Job management component.
- Review your assets from the Data explorer.
- Activate weather alerts from the Samples tab of the Criteria builder. For information about the available weather alerts, see the Catalog of weather alerts. If you are migrating from Alerts Console, the weather alerts that were previously activated in your environment are activated by default.
- Define weather alert criteria by using the Criteria builder. The criteria definition matches one or more weather alerts.
- Define a message template for an alert rule by using the Message builder.
- Create an alert rule to define the notification method for a criteria definition. You can send notifications for the criteria by email, to an HTTP endpoint, and to the Action center. To send notifications to an endpoint, you must configure the endpoint by using the Endpoint Definitions API. When you activate the alert rule, depending on the rule configuration, alert notifications are sent to contacts, HTTP endpoints, and the Action center.
To access the Action center to see a history of weather alerts, from the side menu of the user interface, choose Operation Center > Action center.
