Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 - Prepaid Capacity Credits
Requirements
If you are thinking about having a Power Enterprise Pool 2.0, first the EP20 feature code needs to be purchased as part of HW Box Order or MES order. The ordering and activation can be done by the IBM Seller direct sale or through Business Partner.
The prepaid feature can be found at My Entitled Hardware > Power Enterprise Pools application.
Access
To use the Power Enterprise Pools application, your profile must have a registered Customer Number.
- With "View information" authorization on the Customer Number, you can view the list of pools, machines, and credit status.
- To generate a pool ID, you need "Update information" authorization on the Customer Number for your Power system.
If no Customer Number is registered, you can register one directly on the screen below the empty table.
You can view or remove Customer Numbers and check your authorizations in the View My Authorizations application.
Selecting a Customer Number
When you select a Customer Number, you can view all your Power Enterprise Pools 1.0 and 2.0 within the same Enterprise.
Customers who share the same CMR value for any of these attributes—US affiliate, DUNS domestic, or Buyer Group—are considered part of the same Enterprise.
You can view details in Customer details and Enterprise information.
After your pools are displayed, you can choose the actions you want to perform.
Generate a new pool ID
In order to start a new Power Enterprise pool 2.0 on Cloud Management Console (where you manage your pools 2.0):
- Create a pool ID in ESS by clicking the Generate a new Pool ID button.
- Select usage type Prepaid Capacity Credits .
- Select an eligible machine.
- Review displayed information and confirm to generate pool ID.
- Once your pool ID is created, you need to set up your Cloud Management Console (CMC) to connect the pool to your CMC. In case you do not have your CMC set up yet, you can request it by using CMC activation form.
- You need at least one supported system with base resources available that is not in any pools yet.
- The machine you select on ESS to generate the pool ID, should be connected to Cloud Management Console (CMC). If the selected machine is not available in CMC, CMC will ask for the customer number that is used to generate the pool ID on ESS.
Buy or Add more Capacity Credits
While creating your pool ID, you can:
- Buy new Prepaid Capacity Credits for your Power Enterprise Pool 2.0 directly on the ESS website.
- Use existing Prepaid Capacity Credits from a 5819-CRD order that you purchased before. Add only the credit amount needed. A particular capacity credit order can be used multiple times to top-up credit within more of your enterprise pools.

Analyze usage
On the displayed pool, you are provided with Usage overview of your credits. If you would like to analyze it in deep, you need to go to CMC.
All PEP 2.0 management activities are performed in Cloud Management Console (CMC), therefore you need to set up the Cloud Management Console. The button to open CMC becomes available on ESS after the pool is created in CMC. Then CMC sends pool usage to ESS.
If you have not set up CMC, you can request it by using CMC activation form .

Prepaid Capacity Credit orders
The Prepaid Capacity credit orders section provides visibility for all your capacity credit orders that are used for Power Enterprise Pools 2.0.
- You can monitor the status of your prepaid capacity credit orders.
- "Available" status shows that there is one or more credits still available for allocation to a pool.
- "Used up" status shows that all credits are allocated to pools. You cannot automatically add credits from this credits order to another new pool.
- "Shipping" status shows that the credit order is still being processed.
- Capacity credit orders are not transferable across countries. They can only be used in the country they were purchased in.
- A particular capacity credit order can be used multiple times to top-up credit within more of your enterprise pools.
For example, a credit order with 200 purchased credits has a status "Available" in the orders section. The number of Remaining credits is 150. You can use the same order multiple times for more pools to add credits. If you add all 150 credits to a single pool, this would limit your flexibility to pay with them to that particular pool only. You are not able to automatically release the credits and make them available once added to a pool.
If you require to have any credits released, contact ESS Support and mention the required number of credits that you need released.
Credits released from fully assigned credit orders are always rounded down. For example, if 2.3 credits remain, they are released as a credit order with 2 credits.
Base resources
Base resources is a new name for permanent hardware core and memory activations and software licenses that are installed on an IBM Power supported system, which is enabled for Enterprise Pools 2.0. You can see whether your supported system is PEP2.0-ready by going to Inventory Explorer application and looking at Hardware > CPU overview for the selected system. The number of base resources are listed there. You will also find a new feature code EP20 that is listed on your system's configuration. You can always see all your installed features under Hardware > CPU configuration.
