Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 - FAQs
Question: Which Power models are supported in Power Enterprise Pools 2.0?
Answer: The models that are enabled for Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 can be found in the section: What is a credit and current consumption rates
Question: How many hardware generations can be in the same pool?
Answer:No more than two consecutive hardware generations can be in the same pool. So, you cannot have both Power9 and Power11 in a single pool.
Question: Is any supported Power system enabled?
Answer: No, there are certain prerequisites that need to be met before a supported system can run in an Power Enterprise Pool 2.0. You need to either MES upgrade your existing system or purchase a new supported system, which comes pre-configured as PEP2.0-ready, by acquiring and activating the EP20 feature code in the eligible machine.
Question: How can I check whether my supported system is PEP2.0-ready?
Answer: You can easily check if your system is PEP2.0-ready under Inventory Explorer. Select your system serial number and go to the Hardware > CPU overview section. If you can see base cores and base memory that are listed under Hardware cores and Memory sections, respectively, then your system is PEP2.0-ready. Alternatively, you can also look at your system's configuration under Hardware > CPU configuration and see whether feature EP20 is listed. If it is, the system is also considered PEP2.0-ready (both the base resources and feature EP20 is found when a supported system is PEP2.0-ready).
Question: Is there a minimum firmware level required to support Power Enterprise Pools 2.0?
Answer: Yes, you need to have a minimum FW930.00 installed on your IBM Power E980. You can find it in Fix Central. Make sure that you are always up to date on firmware level, since future updates to Enterprise Pools 2.0 might require the latest firmware level to function correctly.
Question: Cloud Management Console? CMC? Base resources? Pools? Credits? This all sounds new to me. Is there some place where I can read more about all these things?
Answer: Yes, there is a helpful community that has many great articles and more details. You can find it in IBM CMC for Power Systems.
Question: I can't see my credits that I purchased through my Business Partner or IBM Sales Representative.
Answer: Make sure that you are authorized for the customer number that the order is installed under. You can see your customer numbers and the authorizations for them under View My Authorizations application. Access to credit orders and pool activities is shared with Elastic Capacity on Demand ordering and Software Updates ordering.
Question: I placed a Capacity Credits order on a customer number. Can I move and use this Capacity Credits order on another customer number in a different country within the same Global DUNS?
Answer: No. Capacity Credits orders are not transferable across countries. They can only be used in the country they were purchased in.
Question: I have an existing Prepaid pool with many remaining credits in it. I need to create a new pool but I don't see an option on the web to release these credits and make them available for the new pool.
Answer: The capacity credits are entirely assigned to one or more pools and you can't use the remaining credits for a different pool. If you require to have any credits released, contact ESS Support and mention the required number of credits that you need released.
Question: How can I get authorized for my customer number?
Answer: You can do that under Register Customer Number application. Select your country, enter your 7-digit (US) or 6-character (other countries) customer number and continue. To validate your registration, you need to authenticate the registration by using one of the following three values:
- 6 character plant order number - the value is generated for every product that you have previously purchased at IBM and is listed on packing lists and email confirmations of all your purchases from IBM Systems group
- 7 character system number - this value is available on packing lists and email confirmations of all your purchases from IBM Systems group.
- Service contract number - if you have an active service contract with IBM, provide its contract number. If you have some components active on the customer number you're registering for, the authentication works.
