Registration process - external users - Business Partners (any tier)

When your company is registered in IBM Partner Plus and your ESS profile is connected to your PartnerPlus registration, you are recognized as a Business Partner or Distributor on ESS (depending on your Business Partner Agreements). Just like clients, Business Partners can also register customer numbers on ESS to get access to extra capabilities. Similarly, there are two types of customer number registrations available on ESS:

  • Full registration - all relevant authorizations are added to your ESS profile

  • Quick registration - you only get "Download media" access

Full registration

It is available only if there is no Business Partner Block (BP-Block) set by the End Customer administrator for the customer number. If BP-Block is enabled, you are only able to perform Quick registration. To get any additional authorizations when BP-Block is enabled, contact one of the administrators of the customer number by following the "Contact administrators" link during the registration attempt.

When registering a customer number, first select your country and enter the customer number and then, as a second step, authenticate the registration by providing one of the following details mentioned.

Full registration is granted when authenticating the customer number with:

  • Order number
  • System number
  • SWMA contract number

You can find the customer number, order number, and system number in the documentation that was shipped with the order. It is provided as part of the order confirmation email that is received from your Distributor or IBM.

If successful, the following authorizations are provided to your ESS profile for the customer number:

  • View information
  • Transfer inventory
  • Update information
  • Manage keys
  • Download media

Unlike End Customers, Business Partners do not get Administrator authorization assigned during full registration and, as consequence, cannot select to become "Primary contact". If you require Administrator authorization, contact an existing Administrator by following the "Contact administrator" link on the View My Authorization application.

Quick registration

It is granted when authenticating the customer number with:

  • Hardware serial number

If successful, the following authorization is provided to your ESS profile for the customer number:

  • Download media

In both registration types, any existing customer number administrators are notified about your registration.
