Machine Reported Product Data

Machine Reported Product Data section allows worldwide search for installed machine configurations, reported by the machine itself during a "Call Home" or maintenance request, based on your ESS profile.

Description and access

  • End Customers, Business Partners and Distributors are restricted to use only the MRR report, which is a configuration file of an installed zSeries machine.
  • For an internal user it is possible to search installed machine configurations for zSeries, pSeries, iSeries, and Storage brands.

No special access to this function is required. It is available under the My Inventory menu option.

Report types:

  • Display specific machine

    • information is retrieved and viewed directly on the application
    • displays configuration details for specific machine
    • results will show hardware parts and features and for some machines also software information
    • Archive data will be shown if previous configurations are available

  • Download Vital Product Data (VPD)

    • download a file that contains vital product data and is usable in the VPD Manager - for internal users only
    • hardware (and software) content of the machine collected from installed machine

  • Download Machine Readable Report (MRR)

    • download a machine-readable report
    • the report is configuration data for a zSeries machine used in e-config on Cloud
    • MRR file can be used to work with the machine configuration

  • Download HMC Vital Product Data (VPD)

    • download a vital product data file for hardware management console
    • contains vital product data for hardware management console
    • Archive data will be shown if previous configurations are available

  • Download HMC History

    • downloads an rtf file with a history of hardware management console assignments
    • date of every time a hardware management console was inserted into database
    • Contains also information to which machine it was assigned to

  • Download HMC List

    • download an rtf file containing a list of hardware management consoles assigned to the machine
    • list of HMCs assigned to a machine
    • can be used to obtain specific HMC serial number

How to retrieve report data:

  1. Select a report type from the list
  2. Enter machine type and serial number and optionally, plant of origin

There are two types of serial number when searching machine reported data:

  • 7-character Serial number
  • 9-character HMC serial number
  • Serial number - for example 1234567 - has 7 characters and consists of two parts:
    • First two digits represent Plant of Origin, in the example, 12
    • The last five characters identify a specific machine, in our example, 34567

How to download the report types:

Display specific machine

  1. Select a machine type from the list
  2. Enter the last five characters of Serial number in the serial number field or seven characters if Plant of Origin is included
  3. Select Plant of Origin (this is represented by first two digits of Serial number and if you entered it already in the serial number field, you do not need to select Plant of Origin anymore)

As a result, machine details are displayed on the page. You can select Hardware data or Software data tables and also download the printable version.

Download Vital Product Data (VPD)

  1. Select a machine type from the list
  2. Enter the last five characters of Serial number in the serial number field or seven characters if Plant of Origin is included
  3. Select Plant of Origin (this is represented by first two digits of Serial number and if you entered it already in the serial number field, you do not need to select Plant of Origin anymore)
  4. After submission you can download a VPD file for the specified machine

Download MRR

  1. Select a machine type from the list
  2. Enter the last five characters of Serial number in the serial number field or seven characters if Plant of Origin is included
  3. Select Plant of Origin (this is represented by first two digits of Serial number and if you entered it already in the serial number field, you do not need to select Plant of Origin anymore)
  4. After submission you can download an MRR file for the specified machine

Download HMC Vital Product Data (VPD)

  1. Select a machine type from the list
  2. Enter a 9-character HMC serial number
  3. After submission you can download an HMC VPD file for the specified hardware management console

Download HMC History

  1. Select a machine type from the list
  2. Enter the last nine characters of Serial number in the serial number field or seven characters if Plant of Origin is included
  3. Select Plant of Origin (this is represented by first two digits of Serial number and if you entered it already in the serial number field, you do not need to select Plant of Origin anymore)
  4. After submission you can download an HMC History file for the specified machine

Download HMC List

  1. Select a machine type from the list
  2. Enter the last five characters of Serial number in the serial number field or seven characters if Plant of Origin is included
  3. Select Plant of Origin (this is represented by first two digits of Serial number and if you entered it already in the serial number field, you do not need to select Plant of Origin anymore)
  4. After submission you can download an HMC List file for the specified machine
