DS8000 Licensed function deactivation
You can change the assigned value to zero (0.0 TB) to deactivate (disable) a licensed function. Changing the assigned value generates a new feature activation code. Applying the new feature activation code to your machine for deactivation is a disruptive activity and requires a power cycle of the machine before the change is effective.
For DS8000 series models that support multiple storage images (System Storage LPARs), you can deactivate a licensed function on a storage image basis. Applying the new feature activation code to your machine for deactivation is a disruptive activity and you must take the affected storage image through an offline / online cycle before the change will become effective. A power cycle of the machine is not required.
You can reactivate a deactivated licensed function by changing the assigned value to a nonzero value. This generates a new feature activation code. Applying the new feature activation code for reactivation is a nondisruptive activity. When you deactivate a licensed function in this manner, the function authorizations that are acquired for the machine remain intact. This means that you will not be required to repurchase your function authorizations if you want to reactivate the licensed function at a future date.
