DS8000 FICON / ESCON attachment
The FICON /ESCON attachment function enables a DS8000 series machine to be used with FICON and ESCON attached servers by allowing the creation of CKD (Count Key Data) volumes on the machine. This function is not activated through a unique feature activation code. Instead, it is activated through a change in the license scope for operating environment function.
- When this function is present, the operating environment function license scope is set to ALL on the Manage Activations page. A license scope of ALL allows you to use the machine with data from all attached servers.
- When this function is not present, the operating environment function license scope is set to FB on the Manage Activations page. A license scope of FB (Fixed Block) allows you to use the machine with data only from Fiber Channel-attached servers.
Notes
- If the operating environment license scope is limited to FB on the Manage Activations page, it is because FICON attachment function is not present on your machine. To change the operating environment license scope to ALL so that CKD volumes can be created, you must acquire the FICON attachment feature and assign its order confirmation code to your machine.
- When the FICON attachment function is present on your machine:
- It is displayed on the Authorization details tab in the Licensed function indicator features list
- It is NOT displayed on the Manage Activations page.
- It is NOT displayed on the Machine overview tab and a feature activation code is not provided for the function.
