DS8000 Authorization details and Expansion units

The Authorization Details tab serves for reference purposes. This tab displays information for licensed function indicators and authorizations which are present on your machine. You can see a list of feature codes that represent each function. They are categorized as:

Licensed function indicator feature codes:

These feature codes are used for monthly maintenance billing purposes only and are not used for the creation of your feature activation codes. The following information is displayed for these features present on your machine:

• Feature number
• Feature quantity
• Feature description

An indicator feature code will also be displayed if your machine is participating in the DS8000 series Standby Capacity on Demand program.

Function authorization feature codes:

These feature codes define the functions that you can retrieve feature activation codes for. The following information is displayed for these features present on your machine:

• Function authorization model and serial number
• Function description
• Feature number
• Feature quantity
• Feature description
• Total license value (or License "Enabled" / "Disabled" for binary functions)

If no function authorization is displayed and you have received a DS8000 series function authorization reference document, you must manually assign the function authorization to your machine before you can retrieve your feature activation codes. To do so select Assign function authorization from the "Actions" button.

Expansion units are additional storage units that can be added to the DS8000 system to increase its overall capacity. If your system does have expansion unit(s) they will be shown in this tab together with a list of features for the unit(s).
