Utility Capacity on Demand

Utility Capacity on Demand provides automated use of on-demand processors from the shared processor pool for short-term workloads on IBM POWER6, POWER7, and Power8 processor-based systems. Utility CoD is for customers with unpredictable, short workload spikes who need an automated and affordable way to help assure adequate server performance is available as needed. Usage is measured in processor minute increments.

Actions you can do:
* Report usage - report use of Utility Capacity on Demand processor minutes
* Disable reporting - request to disable Utility Capacity on Demand
* Enable reporting - this process is now sunset. You can only report usage or disable reporting.

Report usage

Step 1: Collect the Enablement code from the mail or inside ESS under Power Capacity on Demand application.

Step 2: Enter the code via HMC (Power 8 documentation).

Step 3: When you add utility CoD processors, they are automatically placed in the default shared processor pool. These processors are available to any uncapped partition in any shared processor pool.

Report use of utility processors in ESS under My Entitled Hardware > Power Capacity on Demand application. Usage should be reported before exceeding the processor minute reporting limit for the machine.

A Hardware Management Console (HMC) is required to administer this CoD offering.
