Update information authorization
Update information authorization is needed when you work with Software Updates, Power Enterprise Pools, Virtual Serial Numbers, and Elastic Capacity on Demand applications.
The "Update information" authorization should be assigned on the Customer Number you need to work with.
Upgrade Power software version and release (Software Updates)
"Update information" authorization is needed in the Software Updates application. For Software maintenance upgrades it should be assigned to the Customer Number you are working with.
In the Software Updates application you can order entitled software updates for IBM i and AIX systems. The entitled software updates are granted at no charge. You can search for software updates and download a particular version in order to upgrade your Power software.
Generate new Virtual Serial Numbers (Power Capacity on Demand)
In the Virtual Serial Numbers application you need to have the Customer Number registered on your profile in order to work with the application.
The "Update information" authorization allows you to generate new VSNs to the eligible machines.
The Virtual Serial Number (VSN) service allows you to generate a VSN and assign it to a logical partition to Power9 and Power10 servers. IBM i software can then be ordered or transferred to the VSN instead of being tied to a physical IBM Power machine’s serial number. Having the IBM i entitlement, keys, and support entitlement on a VSN provides you with the flexibility to move the partition to a different Power machine.
Purchase Elastic capacity on Demand (Power Capacity on Demand)
You need "Update information" authorization in order to purchase Elastic Capacity on Demand.
The Elastic Capacity on Demand service provides short-term processor and memory activation capability for fluctuating peak processing requirements such as seasonal activity, period-end or special promotions.

Create new pools (Power Enterprise Pools)
In the Power Enterprise Pools application you need to have the Customer Number registered on your profile in order to work with the application.
The "Update information" authorization on the Customer Number allows you to generate new pool IDs to the eligible machines, using the prepaid or monthly billing methods.
Add available or purchase new capacity credits for pools (Power Enterprise Pools)
The "Update information" authorization on the Customer Number allows you to add exiting capacity credits to a new or active pool, as well as purchase new credits for an active pool.
Convert pool from prepaid to monthly billing (Power Enterprise Pools - IBMers and End Customers)
If you are an internal user and need to convert the billing method for a pool, you would need an internal "Update" authorization.
