Planning to export and import with the ClearCase Version Importer
Before you use the ClearCase® Version Importer, you must understand some concepts and plan out the migration.
Before you begin
The ClearCase Version Importer is a command-line based tool that imports all the file versions regardless of its branch. Before you migrate the ClearCase data with the ClearCase Version Importer, you must understand the concepts of IBM® Engineering Workflow Management source control. For more information, see Engineering Workflow Management concepts for ClearCase users.
About this task
Because
of the SCM model difference, the importer does not import everything
in the ClearCase system.
The ClearCase Version Importer can
migrate the following ClearCase data:
- All version histories of file elements are imported as individual
change sets.
- Merge hyperlinks are imported as a Engineering Workflow Management source control merge.
- Version owners are mapped as change-set owners.
- Check-in time stamps are mapped to Engineering Workflow Management source control change-set time stamps.
- Version properties are imported as change-set comments and user properties.
When you import the data from ClearCase , you must plan the migration.
Note: The ClearCase Version Importer can
migrate data from both UCM ClearCase and
base ClearCase .
When data is migrated from UCM, all file versions are migrated, except
for the UCM metadata (such as a stream, baseline, or activity).
