Modifying timelines and iterations

You can modify timelines and iterations in a project area or process template. You can modify an iteration type, ID, name, and start and end dates to define the project schedule. You can duplicate timelines and iterations to create new ones with existing configurations.

About this task

Iteration types are defined in the process configuration and provide a set of permissions and operation behaviors that can be applied to all iterations of the same type. Select a type that matches the function of the iteration you are editing. The timeline and iteration identifier (ID), such as "m3," is displayed in the process configuration source code (id="m3"). The name, such as "Milestone 3," is displayed in the Timelines list.

To modify timelines and iterations:

Procedure

  1. Open a project area or a process template:
    • Right-click a project area in the Team Artifacts view.
    • Right-click a template in the Process Templates view.
Click Open. The project area or process template opens in the editor view.

Tip: Start and end dates for iterations are optional and do not determine the current and completed iterations. Iterations that appear before the current iteration, at the same level in the hierarchy, are marked as complete.
  5. To duplicate a timeline or iteration, select it in the Timelines list and click Duplicate. Type a new ID and name. To retain custom process configuration in the new line or iteration, click the check box Duplicate any existing process for the timeline or Duplicate any existing process for the iteration. Click OK.

What to do next

To customize the process for the iteration, right-click the iteration in the Timelines list and click Configure Process. The Process Configuration page opens in the editor. Add roles, permissions, and operation preconditions and follow-up actions, as needed, and click Save.
