Linking work items to artifacts in Configuration Management-enabled
project areas
If your organization uses the Global Configuration Management
application to manage versioned artifacts in other applications, such
as Quality Management and Requirements Management, you can link work
items to specific versions of those artifacts.
Enabling external attachment storage for work items
You can use the Administration page in the web client to enable an external attachment storage for work items. When enabled, work item attachments larger than the configured threshold is stored in an external repository instead of in the application's database.
Linking work items in a global configuration context
You can link work items to versioned artifacts in a global configuration (GC) context. Linking across lifecycle domains or components requires a global configuration context and certain versioned artifacts, such as requirements and tests. Linking does not apply to SCM artifacts.
Relationships between global configuration, release, and attribute mappings
When you set the configuration context in any ELM application, the system attempts to resolve both incoming and outgoing links by using that context. For work item links, resolution differs slightly depending on whether you are starting from the work item in EWM or from the versioned artifact in another ELM application.
Enabling linking of work items to versioned artifacts
When you enable configuration management across ELM applications, artifacts, such as requirements and tests, are versioned. When you link between versioned artifacts, the system uses the configuration context that you specify to determine the correct version of the target. For links across components or domains, you specify a global configuration that groups configurations for the linked artifacts.
Limitations of linking work items to versioned artifacts
You can link work items to versioned artifacts that belong to configurations in Configuration Management-enabled project areas in applications such as Requirements Management and Quality Management.
