You can manage work items to add, modify, assign, or group them in a plan.

Grouping work items in plans
You can use the plan views to organize work items in a plan. Plan views define whether a plan is displayed as a tree, a taskboard, or as a flat list. They also specify which work items to exclude, how work items are sorted and grouped, what kind of progress is computed, or if work items are to be colorized. Every process template includes a predefined set of plan views. They are designed to support best practices. However, you can modify existing plan views and create new ones to suit your team’s needs.
Creating, modifying, and moving work items in a plan
In addition to modifying work items in the work item editor, you can create, modify, and move work items in the Planned Items page of a plan. Using the Planned Items page in a plan is more convenient because you do not have to open each work item in the work item editor to modify and save its details.
Creating plan views
A plan view is a cohesive unit representing the view, group, sort, filter, bars, custom columns, and color support. You can use plan views to group work items. For example, you can group work items to view in tree style, group by Owner, sort by Priority, filter out Resolved items, add Status column, and color high priority work items.
Configuring plan views
You can use the plan view editor to customize the view of the plan. With the Columns tab, you can select the columns that you want to see in the plan. The Options tab can be used to group, filter, sort, and view work items in a manner convenient to you.
