Linking between artifacts in the web client
Work items include a set of predefined link types for traceability. You can view the link types for a work item and create relationships between items by using the link menu on the Links tab.
Before you begin
Whether a link type is shown in the link menu depends on project association definitions and on whether the Change and Configuration Management (CCM) application is integrated with other products through an Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) integration, for example, IBM® Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® Next. If the projects exist on different servers, you must first establish cross-server communication by using OSLC services. About this task
Table 1 describes the common work item link types in the CCM application. For the link-type pairs described in the table, for example, Add Blocks/Add Depends On and Set Parent/Add Child, creating a link type in one item automatically creates a backlink in the other item. In both items, the links are displayed in the Links section on the Links tab.
|Add Related||Captures a general relationship between a CCM
work item and another item.
For example, you might have a work item for the client development team to implement a new feature, and a separate work item for the server development team to implement an administrative interface associated with that feature. The two tasks have a general relationship in that they are both associated with an aspect of the new feature. Use the Add Related link type in either item to create a Related link in both items.
Add Depends On
|Captures a dependency relationship between two
For example, an open defect in the CCM application can block running a test case in a Quality Management (QM) application. In the CCM application, links of this type are shown as Blocks links; in the QM application, links of this type are shown as Depends On links.
Add Resolved By
|Captures a resolution relationship between two
work items. These link types are most often associated with the Formal Project Management Process template where
a risk action work item mitigates or counters a risk work item.
Use the Add Resolves link type to indicate that a risk action work item resolves risk work item; use the Add Resolved By link type to indicate that a risk work item is resolved by a risk action work item.
|Add Related Artifacts||Captures a relationship between a work item and related artifacts or URIs.|
|Captures a parent-child relationship between two work items. In the child work item, use the Set Parent link type to set the parent work item. In the parent work item, use the Add Children link type to add one or more child work items.|
|Add Duplicated By
Set Duplicate Of
|Captures a duplicate relationship between two work items. Use the Add Duplicated By link type to add work items that duplicate the current item. Use the Set Duplicate Of link type to add items that are a duplicate of the current work item.|
|Add Affected by Defect||Captures a relationship in which a work item is affected by a defect item.|
|Add Contributes To
|Captures a planning relationship between a work item and another item. These
link types are most often associated with the project schedule in a cross-project plan. A tracked work item, which you designate by the Add
Contributes To link type, contributes to a larger effort across projects. The Tracks link type
tracks high-level items that belong to different projects.
For example, in a project schedule plan, the estimated cost/time of a work item is added to the accumulated time of the item that it contributes to (Add Contributes To link type). The item that the first work item contributes to tracks the first item (Add Tracks link type).
Note: To create a Tracks link across repositories, project areas must be associated. If the projects exist on different servers, you must first establish cross-server communication. For more information, see the related links at the end of the topic.
|Add Related Change Request||Captures a relationship between a Jazz repository work item on one server and a change request item on a different server. The application that is running on the second server might be a Engineering Lifecycle Management application, or it might be an application that is integrated with the CCM application through a supported OSLC integration. |Add Affects Plan Item||Captures a child-parent planning relationship between a work item and a plan item.|
