Traceability and test execution views
From a test plan or while browsing a list of test artifacts, you can view test execution status and view the relationships between test artifacts and various lifecycle artifacts, such as requirements and development plans.
Information that was only available through reports in previous versions of the product is now viewable within Engineering Test Management. For example, you can now do the following activities without having to run a report:
- Use a traceability view to determine requirement coverage in test cases
- Determine workload per tester, per iteration
- Use an execution view to understand the execution status of an entire test effort
Traceability views
Traceability refers to the ability to trace the status of test artifacts and their relationship to other artifacts.
To open the traceability view for test plans, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test plan shows the requirement collections that are validated by the test plan and the development plans that the test plan tests. Thus, from a particular test plan, you can link directly to its associated requirements collection in the Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® application or an associated development plan in the Engineering Workflow Management application.
To open the traceability view for test cases, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test case shows the specific requirement that is validated by the test case and the development plans that the test case tests. Thus, from a particular test case, you can link directly to its associated requirement in the Engineering Requirements Management DOORS application, or an associated development plan in the Engineering Workflow Management application, or an associated architectural element in the Architecture Management application.
To open the traceability view for test scripts, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test script shows the specific requirement that is validated by the test script. Thus, from a particular test script, you can link directly to its associated requirement in the Requirements Management application or an associated development plan in the Engineering Workflow Management application.
To open the traceability view for test case execution records, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test case execution record shows the defects that are associated with that test case execution records. Thus, from a particular execution record, you can link directly to its associated defect in the Engineering Test Management application.
To open the traceability view for test suite execution records, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test suite execution record shows the defects that are associated with that test suite execution records. Thus, from a particular execution record, you can link directly to its associated defect in the Engineering Test Management application.
To open the traceability view for test case results, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test case execution record shows the defects that are associated with the test case execution records. Thus, from a particular result, you can link directly to its associated defect in the Engineering Test Management application.
To open the traceability view for test suite result, click , and then select . The traceability view for a test case execution records shows the defects that are associated with the test suite result. Thus, from a particular result, you can link directly to its associated defect in the Engineering Test Management application.
Test execution views
Test execution views are now available that provide up-to-the-minute status about the test effort. A test execution rollup is provided in the Summary section of a test plan. From the rollup, you can open a view of the test case or test suite execution records.
To open the execution view for test plans, click , and then select . The execution view for test plans shows you the progress of all planned test case and test suite execution records associated with each test plan.
To open the execution view for test suites, click , and then select . The execution view for test suites show the progress of the test suite execution records contained within each test suite.
