Managing test artifacts
Several tools are provided to help you manage your test artifacts more easily.
Categories and custom attributes
You can use categories and custom attributes to create a hierarchical folder structure for storing your test artifacts. You can then use those same categories and attributes, along with the built-in search, query, and filter tools to locate those same test artifacts within a project.
Categories are a tagging mechanism that you can use with your tests artifacts. For example, you might want to tag all test plans by product, release, and iteration. You can then more easily group and subsequently find those test plans.
Custom attributes are similar to categories, Like categories, custom attributes can be used as a grouping, sorting, and filtering mechanism to organize test artifacts within a project into logical hierarchies. With categories, the field values are restricted to text format, but custom attribute values can be in the form of text, integers, and dates.
Viewing the artifacts in a project
A view is provided for each test artifact type: test plans, test cases, test scripts, and so on. Simply go to the appropriate menu and select the View command for the test artifact that you are interested in. For example, click to open a view of all the test cases in the project. Or click to open a view of all the test suite results in the project.
A filters sidebar is available along one side of the View window. With the sidebar, you can filter the view by category or by saved query. In Filter by Categories you can browse the hierarchy and narrow the list of artifacts by clicking any node in the tree. In Filter by Saved Queries, you can browse saved queries and run them from the sidebar.
All test artifacts are stored on the Jazz Team Server. When you choose to view test artifacts, the server sends your browser window one page of results at a time. The remaining results are not displayed in your browser window until you request to view them. Therefore, network traffic is managed more efficiently, and performance is enhanced.
You can control how many results are displayed at one time with the Items per page list box. The choices in this list box vary, depending on the number of test artifacts in the project. The following table lists the available choices:

Saved queries
You can create queries that capture the filters that you have applied to the artifacts in your project. You can save the queries in your personal query list or in a shared, public list. All users can see the shared queries. You can also create subfolders to organize the saved queries. Later, you can open those queries to help locate your test artifacts.
