Module 1: Create lab resource data
In this module, you, in the role of test manager, learn how to create lab resources that populate the lab management database. Lab resources are physical machines, virtual machines, and virtual images. Test environments and test cells are also used as lab resources.
Learning objectives
After completing the lessons in this module, you will understand the concepts and know how to do these tasks:- Create physical machines.
- Create virtual images.
- Display all lab resources.
- Create test environments.
- Create test cells.
Time required
This module requires approximately 40 minutes to complete.- Lesson 1.1: Create a physical machine
In this lesson, you create data for a physical machine. - Lesson 1.2: Create a physical machine with minimal data
In this lesson you, in the role of the test manager, create a physical machine by entering a minimal amount of data. - Lesson 1.3: Create a virtual image
In this lesson, you, in the role of test manager, create a virtual image to add to the lab resources. - Lesson 1.4: Display all lab resources
You can view all the lab resources that you created in these lessons. - Lesson 1.5: Create a lab resource test environment
In this lesson you, in the role of test manager, create a test environment that can be stored and reused in many lab management tasks. For example, the environment can be reused in requesting lab resources, searching for lab resources, and creating test environments. A test environment is a set of lab resource attributes, for example, the make, memory, operating system, and software, for a particular type of machine. - Lesson 1.6: Create a test cell for the test environment
In this lesson you, in the role of test manager, create a test cell. A test cell is a collection of lab resources that are configured with attributes that a test environment requires. Test cells are used primarily for the execution of test scripts, test suites, and test execution sequences.
