Linking test artifacts to requirements and development artifacts by using the copy-and-paste method

You can link test artifacts with other artifacts across IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Management , applications by using the copy-and-paste method. When you link the artifacts, OSLC links are created between the artifacts in the Engineering Lifecycle Management applications.

Before you begin

  • The project areas in the ELM applications must be associated with each other for link creation. For more information, see Engineering Lifecycle Management and Running the setup wizard.
  • Select the Allow linking between test script steps and requirements checkbox in the Manage Project Properties > Properties > Test Script Preferences section.
  • Select the Allow linking between test items and test case results and Allow linking between test items and manual step results checkboxes in the Manage Project Properties > Properties > Test Result Preferences section.

About this task

You can link test artifacts within a test artifact editor or test artifact list view by using the copy-and-paste method. You can also use this method to link test artifacts to work items in IBM Engineering Workflow Management , or requirements in IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® Next ,, or architecture elements in IBM Rhapsody® Model Manager.
Restriction:
  1. You cannot use the copy-and-paste method to copy test case result steps or test script steps and paste into other artifacts. However, you can copy work items from Engineering Workflow Management and paste into test case result steps. Also, you can copy requirements from DOORS Next and paste into test script steps.
  2. The copy-and-paste method is supported for associated project areas when the connection is active. The method cannot be used when you are not authenticated or the session is timed out. To establish a connection, use the appropriate option from the menu and log in to the server of the associated project area. For example, to connect to DOORS Next, select Requirements from the menu and log in.
Attention: To use the copy-and-paste method to link artifacts, you must register the same email ID across Jazz® Team Servers.
Artifacts that can be linked by using the copy-and-paste method are described in the following table:

Procedure

  1. Open a test artifact in the test artifact editor.
  2. Click the Copy link for this page icon and click Copy Link to copy the link to the page.
  3. Paste the test artifact link into the target artifact editor by completing the following options.
    1. To paste the test artifact link into another test artifact editor, click the Paste artifact links icon.
    2. To paste the test artifact link into a requirement, click the Paste as Link option under the More Actions menu.
    3. To paste the test artifact link into a work item, click the Paste as Link icon.
  4. In the Select the link type list, select the link type that you want.
  5. Click Create Links. In the Links section, you can view the linked artifact and the link type.
  6. Optional: To link single or multiple test artifacts to a requirement in DOORS Next, copy the selected test artifact links by using the row level action in the test artifacts list view. Paste the test artifact links into the target requirement editor by clicking the Paste as Link option under the More Actions menu. Specify the link type and save the requirement. Similarly, you can copy and paste requirements into a test artifact editor to create OSLC links.
Tip: You can copy and paste requirements directly into the Manual Steps section of a test script editor, no Create Links dialog box is shown.
  7. Optional: To link single or multiple test artifacts to a work item in Engineering Workflow Management, copy the selected test artifact links by using the row level action in the test artifacts list view. Paste the test artifact links into the target work item editor by clicking the Paste as Link icon. Specify the link type and save the work item. Similarly, you can copy and paste work items into a test artifact editor to create OSLC links.
Tip: You can copy and paste work items directly into the Result Details section of a test case result editor, no Create Links dialog box is shown.
  8. Optional: To link single or multiple test artifacts to an architecture element in IBM Rhapsody Model Manager, copy the selected test artifact links by using the row level action in the test artifacts list view. Paste the test artifact links into the target architecture element editor by clicking the Paste as Link icon. Specify the link type and save the architecture element. Similarly, you can copy and paste architecture elements into a test artifact editor to create OSLC links.
  9. Optional: To link single or multiple requirements from a test plan editor to test case editor, copy the selected requirement links from the Requirement Collection Links > Coverage view of the test plan editor by using the row level action in the requirements list view. Paste the requirement links into the target test case editor by clicking the Paste as Link icon. Specify the link type and save the test case editor.
Note: You cannot link requirements from the Requirement Collection Links > Coverage view of a test plan editor to other OSLC RM consumer applications or test cases in the test case table view.
  10. Optional: You can copy and paste test artifact links into the target artifact by using the following keyboard shortcuts:
    • Press Ctrl+C (Windows and Linux) or Command+C (Mac) to copy test artifact links.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+V (Windows and Linux) or Command+Shift+V (Mac) to paste the test artifact links into the target artifact.
