Importing test artifacts as a file

Test artifacts from Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel can be saved as files. These files can further be imported into the application in IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Management.

Before you begin

The export utility must be installed as an add-in to Word or Excel. You must create a configuration file that describes the artifact for the export utility.

Procedure

  1. In Word or Excel, from the menu bar click ETM > Export to File. The Export to File window opens.
  2. In Output Folder, specify the location for file that contains the exported test artifact.
  3. In Choose the mapping file, specify the configuration file for the documents.
  4. Do one these steps:
    • Click Active Document to export the document that is open in the Microsoft Office application. With this selection, you can export a single document.
    • Click Other Documents to specify the documents to export. With this selection, you can export multiple documents. To export multiple documents, click Add. The selected documents are listed. To remove a document from the list, click Remove.
Restriction: In Choose the mapping file, you must select a configuration file that describes the content of the file to be exported. The configuration file is required for the export utility to decipher the contents of the document.
  5. Click Export to start the export process.
  6. If Requirement artifacts are included in the export, the Requirements Management Login Information dialog opens.
    1. Select the Requirements Management project from the Linked RM Project list. This list is auto-filled with projects that are linked to the selected Engineering Test Management project. The Requirements Management server field is not editable. It is auto-filled with the server URL of the selected Requirements Management project area.
If no Linked Requirement Management project areas are available, the Partial Export Confirmation dialog appears. Click No to cancel the export or Yes to export all the artifacts others than requirements. Links to Requirements cannot be created because the Requirements are not available.
    2. Enter the RM User and RM Password and click Export.
All the artifacts other than requirements are exported to the selected Quality Management server. Requirements are exported to the selected Requirements Management server.

Results

The selected documents are converted to XML based on the content format that the configuration file describes. The XML files are saved in output folder\resource\default external ID. For example, the export process can save an XML file to this location: C:\excel export\executionresult\Execution Results_Sheet1.xml.
