Lesson 1: Create a template and add elements

Create a simple template that displays a two column, two row table.

1. Open the Document Studio application.
2. Click File > New > Document Template.
3. Optional: Enter the metadata for the template:
   • Name: Creating a custom attribute tutorial
   • Description: A test template for understanding how custom attributes work.
   You are not required to enter metadata, but if your templates are being reused by other people in your organization, it helps for them to understand why this template was created or how to use it.
4. Select Template version 2.
5. Click Finish.
6. Click File > Save and save the template to your computer.
   Example: C:\tutorial_resources\tutorialSpecialAttributes.dta
7. From the Palette view, drag add a Table element into the template content editor.
8. In the New table window, enter 2 rows and 2 columns.
   • The first column is for displaying the Full Tag information and the second column is for a custom variable that is selected at run time.
   • By default, Insert the Text element within every Cell option is selected and the Text element is inserted.
9. Add formatting to the header row of the table.
   IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Publishing comes with several predefined styles you can use. The HeaderCell style applies bold formatting to the header row of the table. The first row of the table is the header row.
   1. From the Outline view, expand Styles.
   2. Drag the HeaderCell style into each one of the Cells in the first row.
10. Save the changes.
