Configuring certificate or smart card authentication in Engineering Publishing
You can generate document-style reports from the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Publishing desktop client by using a certificate (.p12) file or a smart card. These authentication methods are more secure than logging in with a username and password.
About this task
Although a certificate file and a smart card are different, they are both certificates that are used for authentication. Certificate authentication is more secure than BASIC and FORM-based authentication. Certificate authentication uses HTTP over SSL and authentication occurs by using a public key certificate that is issued by a trusted organization, which is known as a certificate authority.
Document-style report generation to any smart-card server works only if Publishing Document Builder is configured to the same smart-card Jazz® Team Server JTS for authentication. You can't generate document-style reports to another smart-card IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management server.
Authentication when adding a schema
When you add a schema in Document Studio, enter the authentication details for the smart card or digital certificate:
Procedure
-
If you choose SSL Certificate, enter the certificate path and
password.

- If you choose Smart-Card, select the certificate and enter the password.
Setting authentication when configuring the data source
You can specify to use certificate or smart card authentication in Launcher:
Procedure
- In the Document Specification view, expand .
- Right-click the data source and select Configure Data Source.
- Optional:
For smart card authentication, select Smart-Card authentication as the
authentication type and enter the password.

- Optional:
For SSL Certificate authentication, select SSL Certificate
authentication as the authentication type and browse to select the path to the SSL certificate.
Enter the password if needed.

Setting authentication in the Properties view
You can also set authentication details in the Properties view for the data source. There are two properties that are associated with smart card or certificate authentication:
Procedure
In the Properties view for the data source, specify the following details:
- SSL Certificate Path: The path to the certificate file.
-
Smart Card Certificate: The smart card certificate alias
name.

Authentication when configuring or generating a document-style report
You can enter smart card or SSL configuration details when you configure or generate a document-style report.
Procedure
Authentication when discovering a schema
You can enter smart card or SSL configuration details when you discover a schema with the REST or REST V2 schema discovery wizards, when replacing a schema or template from an HTTP location, or when selecting a global configuration.
Procedure
- Smart card and SSL certificate authentication
- Certificate authentication in Publishing Document Builder
