Master page properties reference

Review these properties when you are designing master pages.

Note: Master pages can be used only in templates that are generated into Microsoft Word and PDF documents.



General properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are at the top-level, in the Metadata, and in the Format > Common sections.

Type Value Description
Name String The name of the element.
Description String A summary or note about this element.



Specific properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are in the Format > specific section.

Type Value Description
Page orientation portrait, landscape When set to portrait, the longest edge of the page is vertical. When set to landscape, the longest edge of the page is horizontal.
Page vertical alignment top, center, bottom If the content does not span the entire page, you can specify where the content is to display on the page.
Same as previous true, false, Script expression You can set the Specific properties for the first master page in your template, and for every master page after it, you can set the Same as previous property to true so that all of your master pages behave the same way.
When the check box is selected, the property value is true and you can choose to add a data or script expression to the master page.
  • If you click OK without entering a data or script expression, the check box displays as selected.
  • If you enter a data or script expression and click OK, the check box displays as filled in.
When the check box is cleared, the property value is false.



Margin properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are in the Format > margin section.

Type Value Description
Amount Number Create the same amount of white space between the edge of the page and the template content on all sides of the page. Specify a value in pixels or points.
Gutter Number The additional space between the edge of the page and the margin to use for binding the printed document-style report. Specify a value in pixels.



Page border properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are in the Format > page border section.

Type Value Description
Border distance reference page edge, text edge Specifies whether to start at the edge of the page or the edge of the text to begin applying the Margin value.

The text edge value must be set when the Surround header or Surround footer value is set to false.

Page borders apply option all section pages, first section page, other section pages You can add page borders to select pages in your document-style report.
Display in front true, false If there is overlap, you can bring the border in front of elements by selecting true or bring the elements in front of the border by selecting false.
Surround header true, false Set to true to include the header inside the border or set to false to start the page border after the header.

When set to false, also set the Border distance reference value to text edge.

Surround footer true, false Set to true to include the footer inside the border or set to false to end the page border before the footer.

When set to false, also set the Border distance reference value to text edge.

Margin 0 to 1000 The white space between the sides of the text the border style property is applied to and any other text or element

Color 000000 to FFFFFF The hexadecimal color of the border on the side of the text in the element
Note: Do not set color to transparent for all borders.
Style none, single, thick, double, hairline, dotted, dash large gap, dot dash, dot dot dash, triple, thin thick small gap, thick thin small gap, thin thick thin small gap, thin thick medium gap, thick thin medium gap, thin thick thin medium gap, thin thick large gap, thick thin large gap, thin thick thin large gap, wave, double wave, dash small gap, dash dot stroker, emboss 3D, engrave 3D, outset, inset, groove, ridge, dashed, hidden The type of border used around the side of the element
Width 0 to 30 The number of pixels the width of the border of the side of the element is.



Color properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are in the Format > color section.

Type Value Description
Page color 000000 to FFFFFF The hexadecimal color of the background of the master page. Some output formats accept transparent as a value.



Size properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are in the Format > size section.

Type Value Description
Paper size a3, a4, a5, b4, b5, executive, folio, ledger, letter, legal, envelope dl, quarto, statement, tabloid, paper 10x14, paper 10x17, custom Standard paper sizes that are used internationally and in North America.
Paper height Number Set Paper size to custom and enter the value of the vertical side of the paper in points or pixels.
Paper width Number Set Paper size to custom and enter the value of the horizontal side of the paper in points or pixels.



Watermark properties

In the All properties tab, these properties are in the Format > watermark section.

Type Value Description
Image File path The path to an image file. Supported image formats are dependent on the output format being used. See the appropriate output format reference topic for more information.
Note: If you specify values for both the Image and Text watermark properties, the Image property takes precedence and the Text property value does not display.
Text String The text to display as the watermark in the output.
Note: If you specify values for both the Image and Text watermark properties, the Image property takes precedence and the Text property value does not display.
Font String Default value: Arial

If you entered a value for the Text property, you can specify a font for the watermark text.

Color 000000 to FFFFFF Default value: D3D3D3

If you entered a value for the Text property, you can specify a hexadecimal color for the watermark text.

Width Number Default value: 500

If you entered a value for the Text or Image property, you can specify a width for the watermark. Width is a required property.

Height Number Default value: 100

If you entered a value for the Text or Image property, you can specify a height for the watermark. Height is a required property.

Rotation Number in degrees Default value: 50 degrees

The number of degrees clockwise to turn the watermark text or image.
