Using image maps
An image map defines a set of hotspots for hyperlinks
for an image using HTML. When including images into your rich text
editor fields, you can create image maps to define such hotspots using
a graphical editor.
Procedure
- In the Rich Text Editor, select an image and click the Add
or edit image map icon
. This opens the Image
Map Editor. - To define the hotspot areas, do one of the following:
- Select the Rectangle tool and drag the pointer over the image to create a rectangular hotspot.
- Select the Circle tool and drag the pointer over the image to create a circular hotspot.
- Select the polygon tool and define an irregularly shaped
hotspot by clicking once for each corner point. You must close the
open polygon by clicking your first point. Tip: While creating your polygon shape, double-clicking the image will close the open polygon.
- In the Library or Configuration view, expand the node element that you want the hotspot links to, and drag the element over the image. Select the shape that you want from the menu that is displayed.
- In the Properties view modify the following attributes
for your image map: Tip: If the Properties view is not visible, click Window > Show View > Other and select Properties under General folder.
- Alt: Type the text you want to be displayed as alternative text or to be used by screen reader programs.
- Guid: Every content element in Engineering Method Composer has a global unique identifier that is used to update the hyperlink in the rich text when an element's name changes. If you are creating a hotspot to a content element in the method library, you need to provide this id. It is recommended to use the drag-and-drop method to create a hyperlink in this case, because then Engineering Method Composer will retrieve and fill in this guid for you. Creating a hotspot via the toolbar and not via dragging from the Library or Configuration view, is recommended when you link to an external URL, i.e. an element on the Internet that was not created with Engineering Method Composer.
- Link URL: Enter a path for an element or URL that can be opened when a hotspot is clicked.
- Title: Type a title for the area
of the hotspot. Note: When you drag an element from the Library or Configuration view, all fields in the Properties view are populated with the information from the element.
- Click Save and close the Image Map Editor.
