Upgrading Engineering Lifecycle Management operator interim fix by using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform web console

To install the interim fix on the Engineering Lifecycle Management instance, you need to upgrade the Engineering Lifecycle Management operator to the version that supports the required interim fix.

Before you begin

  1. Ensure that the existing Engineering Lifecycle Management setup is functional without any errors and all Engineering Lifecycle Management applications are accessible.
  2. You must require the appropriate permissions to upgrade the Engineering Lifecycle Management operator. For more information about the user roles in the Red Hat® OpenShift®, see User roles mapping in Engineering Lifecycle Management on Hybrid Cloud.
  3. Subscription Approval strategy

Identify installPlanApproval strategy for the installed subscription by using following steps

    1. Log in to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform web console
    2. Go to Operators > Installed Operators
    3. Click the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management link available in the Name field.
    4. On the Subscription tab, you can see the Update approval field value either as Automatic or Manual

Procedure

  1. For the subscription with an automatic approval strategy, the Engineering Lifecycle Management operator is upgraded.

An automatic approval strategy for operator deployment means that new versions of an operator is automatically upgraded to the latest version available in the selected channel. This upgrade is completed without any manual intervention and approval from a cluster administrator or user with the necessary permissions.

    1. Log in to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform web console
    2. Go to Operators > Installed Operators.
    3. Click the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management link available in the Name field.
    4. On the Subscription tab, you can see the Upgrade status as Up to date.
  2. For the subscription with a manual approval strategy

Manual approval strategy for operator deployments means that new versions of an operator won't be upgraded to the latest version available in the selected channel. It requires manual intervention and approval from a cluster administrator or user with the necessary permissions. When the new updates are released in its current channel, the update must be manually approved before installation begins.

    1. Log in to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform web console
    2. Go to Operators > Installed Operators.
    3. Click the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management operator link available in the Name field
    4. On the Subscription tab, any update requiring approval appears in the Upgrade status field
    5. Click the requires approval and Click Preview InstallPlan
    6. Review that the resources listed are available for update. Click Approve once done
    7. Navigate to the Installed Operators page to monitor the progress of the update. When complete, the status appears as Succeeded and Up to date
