Viewing the history of a configuration

Show history to understand and explore the relationships between and properties for streams and baselines of a component. History results show all configurations of a component. You can show history from a component or a configuration. If you show history from a configuration, it is preselected in the history results.

1. Select a configuration in the tree view or a component on the Browse Components page and then click the Show History on the page.
   Tip: To expand or collapse nested configurations in the tree, click the parent configuration and select Expand All or Collapse All from the menu or the toolbar.
2. Examine the history.

   The graph initially displays all configurations in a collapsed form. Double-click any configuration to expand it, and then click Expand Events to view the events. The following images show how to expand all configurations or all configurations and events.

   The graph shows the initial baseline in the first column. It then shows the evolution of the selected configuration or component. You can see the history of state changes (such as adding or removing configurations, tags, and attributes) and derivation changes (such as creating baselines, baseline staging streams, and streams).

   The following legend explains the meaning of icons and symbols that are used on the History page.

   Icons	Description
   	Shows that a configuration was added. A replace operation is shown as separate add and remove operations.
   	Shows that a configuration was removed. A replace operation is shown as separate add and remove operations.
   	Shows that a configuration was reordered. A reorder operation might cause other configurations to shift position in the tree view because the change impacts the order in which configurations are sorted. Read about sort order in Unexpected local configuration in Current Configuration menu.
   	Shows the past state of a stream.
   	Shows the past state of a baseline.
   	Shows quick expand and collapse menu to move within and outside of the graph.
   	Shows the list of events, starting with most recent.
   	Shows quick expand and collapse menu of single event state.
   	Shows user who made the state changes.
   	Shows when a new stream or baseline was derived from a configuration.
   	Broken line box and arrow signify past state.

3. Act on configurations in the graph by using the toolbar on the History page.

   

   • Show different states (Current and Past States or Current States) of configurations in the graph by setting the Show list box. Alternatively, set the number of recent configurations to show in the graph.
   • Type any part of a title to filter the results of the graph. For example, for a title of SGC 1.0 Release to be displayed, you can type 1.0 to filter the results of the graph. To clear the entry, click the small x at the end of the field.
   • Collapse and expand configurations, or configurations and events by using the segmented buttons.
   • Show or hide an overview map of the graph by clicking the Show/Hide Overview Map icon. Drag the highlighted area on the screen to quickly explore parts of the graph.
   • Select two configurations to compare, and then click the Compare Selected icon to open the comparison in the Compare Configurations page.
   • Additionally, you can remove the current column or a column to the right of the selected column by selecting the menu icon on each column header.

   When finished with the history graph, open a configuration in the tree view by clicking its Menu and then selecting View Configuration. You can also use the browser back button to return to the tree view.

4. Continue exploring configurations by expanding and collapsing events and past states, filtering by title, and comparing configurations.
