Enabling project area process sharing across servers

By default, you can share a project area process with another project area that uses the same Jazz® Team Server. To share project area process across servers, you must configure the servers so that they can communicate with each other.

About this task

To configure cross-server communication, you establish friend relationships between the servers and approve authorization keys. In the following procedure, Provider refers to the server for the project area that will share its process, and Consumer refers to the server for the project area that will consume the shared process. You must set up friend relationships in both directions between the two servers for process sharing between the two servers to work correctly.

Procedure

  1. In the Application Administration web page for the Provider application, add the Consumer server as a friend, which generates a provisional key. See Establishing friend relationships.
  2. In the Application Administration web page for the Consumer application, approve the provisional key. See Approving consumer keys.
  3. In the Application Administration web page for the Consumer application, edit the key to associate a pre-authorized functional user with it. Applications use this capability to run background administrative tasks without user intervention. Remote process sharing does not require that the functional user for the consumer have a client access license or any repository permissions. When accepting the consumer relationship for an application, it is a good practice to use the functional user for that application as the functional user ID for the friend relationship. For example, when approving a consumer in the Change and Configuration Management (CCM) application, use ccm_user as the functional user ID. See Editing consumer keys.
  4. In Application Administration page of the Consumer application, add the Provider server as a friend, which generates a provisional key.
  5. In Application Administration page of the Provider application, approve the provisional key.
  6. In Application Administration page of the Provider application, edit the key to associate a pre-authorized functional user with it.

What to do next

The two servers are now configured to communicate with each other. After you modify a project area to share its process, project areas on the other server can consume the shared process.
