Lesson 5: Override permissions in the consumer project area

In this lesson, you show that from within the consumer project area you can override the permission settings that it consumes from the provider project area.

About this task

In the Standard Process Project Area, the Team Lead role does not have permission to create releases. You are assigned the Team Lead role in the Consumer Project Area, and the Consumer Project Area inherits its permission settings from the Standard Process Project Area. Therefore, you cannot create releases in the Consumer Project Area. However, you can override the inherited settings in the Consumer Project Area.

Procedure

To override the process in the consumer project area:

  1. In the web client, in the Consumer Project Area, try to add a release:
    1. Click Releases.
    2. Click the Add Release icon (Add Release icon).
    3. In the Name field, enter New Release.
    4. Click the Release Date field to display the calendar. Select a date.
    5. Click OK, and then click Save to save the project area.

  2. Override the permissions settings of the process:
    1. Click Permissions.
    2. Select Show by Operation.
    3. In the list of operations, scroll to the Work Items category and select Save Release.
    4. In the Actions column for the Team Lead role, click the Grant Permission icon Grant Permission icon.
    5. Click Save to save the project area.
  3. Click Releases.

Results

The New Release is listed.
