Keyboard shortcuts

In the web client for IBM® Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® Next, you can use keyboard shortcuts to work with requirements artifacts.

In many instances, if you hover over a toolbar icon, the keyboard shortcut for the icon is shown. For example, in a text-based editor, if you hover over the Bullets icon, Ctrl+Shift+B is shown as the shortcut.
Tip: When you are in edit mode in a text editor, press Alt+0 to show a window that lists many common keyboard shortcuts.
The following tables list the keyboard shortcuts that are in various places in the web interface.
Table 1. Selecting multiple artifacts in artifact selection windows
Keyboard shortcut Description
Ctrl and click Selects artifacts in non-sequential order.
Shift and click Selects a range of artifacts.
Table 2. Moving objects in graphical editors
Keyboard shortcut Description
Period (.) Enables an object to be moved by using the Arrow keys. In the sketching editor, select an object, press the period key (.), and move an object by using the Arrow keys. After you move an object, press Enter to finalize the movement.

Keyboard shortcut Description
Arrow keys Moves the focus between shapes.
Ctrl+/ and Ctrl+\ If a shape is selected, moves the focus between connected lines. If a connected control point is selected on a line, changes the connected anchor point around the shape.
Ctrl+| (or Ctrl+Shift+\) Connects two selected shapes.
Alt+drag Selects a group of elements within a container shape.
Alt+Minus sign (-) Starts drag select for a group of elements within a container shape.
Alt+M Toggles the display of the minimap window.
Alt+P Displays the properties dialog box for the selected shape or line.
Del Performs the delete operation.
Ctrl+M Creates a comment for the selected shape or line.
Ctrl+Period (.) or Ctrl+Comma (,) Cycles the control point selection around the selected shape or line.
Ctrl+Arrow keys Moves the selected shape, line, or control point to a new position.
Enter Selects or deselects the shape or line that has focus.
Ctrl+Enter Adds a new item to the wireframe container.
Shift+Enter Selects multiple shapes or lines.
Shift+F10 Displays the context menu for selected shape or line.
Alt+G Groups-selected items.
Alt+U Ungroups previously grouped items.
Ctrl+D Duplicates the selected item.
Ctrl+A Selects all items.
Ctrl+Z Performs the undo operation.
Ctrl+Y Performs the redo operation.
Ctrl+C Performs the copy operation.
F2 Edits text for a shape or line.

Keyboard shortcut Description
Esc Closes the editor window, list, or menu. Also moves from the submenu in a menu to the parent menu item.
Enter Selects an editor function from the toolbar, list, or menu. This shortcut is equivalent to pressing OK in a window.
Shift+F10 Opens the menu for an element.

Home Jumps to the beginning of the line.
Alt+F10 Jumps to the editor toolbar.
Alt+Esc Jumps to the editor text area.
Ctrl+Home Jumps to the beginning of the document.
End Jumps to the end of the line.
Ctrl+End Jumps to the end of the document.
PgDn Scrolls down the document, approximately by the length of the editing area.
PgUp Scrolls up the document, approximately by the length of the editing area.

Enter Ends a paragraph and starts a new one.
Shift+Enter Adds a line break.
Backspace or Del Deletes a character.
Ctrl+Backspace or Ctrl+Del Deletes a word.
Ctrl+A Selects all the contents of a document.
Shift+Arrow Selects text by letters.
Ctrl+Shift+Arrow Selects text by words.
Shift+Home Selects text from the cursor to the beginning of the line.
Shift+End Selects text from the cursor to the end of the line.
Ctrl+Shift+Home Selects text from the cursor to the beginning of the document.
Ctrl+Shift+End Selects text from the cursor to the end of the document.
Shift+PgDn Selects text of approximately the length of the editing area, starting from the cursor and going down.
Shift+PgUp Selects text of approximately the length of the editing area, starting from the cursor and going up.
Select text and Ctrl+Right click Selects text and enables editing and spelling check in rich-text artifacts.
Ctrl+Z Performs the undo operation.
Ctrl+Y Performs the redo operation.

Shift+Alt+Right Arrow Moves an artifact to a higher level in the hierarchy.
Shift+Alt+Left Arrow Moves an artifact to a lower level in the hierarchy.
Ctrl+K, Ctrl+Alt+K, or Ctrl+Shift+K Creates an artifact and adds it after, below, or before the current row.
Ctrl+E, Ctrl+Alt+E, or Ctrl+Shift+E Adds an existing artifact after, below, or before the current row.
Ctrl+Enter, Ctrl+Alt+Enter, or Ctrl+Shift+Enter Creates a similar artifact after, below, or before the current row.
Alt+Shift+B Opens the Open Base Artifact menu option.
Ctrl+U, Ctrl+Alt+U, or Ctrl+Shift+U Uploads a new artifact after, below, or before the current row.
Ctrl+X Cuts the artifact and places it on the clipboard.
Ctrl+C Copies the artifact to the clipboard.
Ctrl+V Pastes the artifact after the selected row.
Tab or Shift+Tab Saves the row and moves the focus to the view mode of that cell.
Return Opens a cell for editing.
Del Removes the artifact.
Ctrl+M Adds a comment to the artifact.
Ctrl+Shift+M Shows all the comments for the artifact.
Alt+F10, Esc Moves the focus to the edit toolbar or to the text field when editing module text inline.
Alt+1 Gives focus to the Type menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Alt+2 Gives focus to the Edit menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Alt+3 Gives focus to the Style menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Alt+4 Gives focus to the Color menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Alt+5 Gives focus to the Alignment menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Alt+6 Gives focus to the List/Table menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Alt+7 Gives focus to the Insert menu of the edit toolbar when editing module text inline.
Tip: While you are editing a row in a module, the following keyboard shortcuts can be used. In each case, before you use the shortcut, unsaved changes in the row are saved.
  • Ctrl+E, Ctrl+Alt+E, or Ctrl+Shift+E
  • Ctrl+Enter, Ctrl+Alt+Enter, or Ctrl+Shift+Enter

Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Up Arrow, and Down Arrow Navigates among the cells in the artifact.
Ctrl+Enter Creates new artifact.
Enter Opens the selected artifact for editing.
Ctrl+click artifact name link Opens the artifact in a new tab.
Shift+click artifact name link Opens the artifact in a new window.
Alt+Shift+H Opens the artifact history.
Ctrl+X Duplicates the selected artifact.
Ctrl+C Copies the artifact to the clipboard.
Shift+Tab Moves the focus out of the inline editor to the cell.
Delete or Ctrl+Backspace Removes the artifact.
Table 9. Navigating in filters
Keyboard shortcut Description
Tab Moves the cursor focus to elements in the filter window.
Shift+Down Arrow Expands the edit menu when the cursor focus is on the menu.
Space bar Selects a check box that has the focus of the cursor.
Enter Runs a selected filter.
Up Arrow and Down Arrow Moves from the header of each filter section. At any section heading or in the adjacent sidebar, press the Spacebar to expand or collapse the section.

Keyboard shortcut Description
Up Arrow and Down Arrow Moves the focus within the links explorer.
Right Arrow If a node is expanded, the Right Arrow moves the focus to a child node. If the node is collapsed, the Right Arrow expands the node.
Plus sign (+) If the node has child nodes that are not expanded, the plus sign expands the node.
Minus sign (-) Collapses a node.
Left Arrow Moves from a node to a parent node.
Ctrl+N Adds a link to the node. If quick create mode is enabled, this shortcut creates an artifact.
Ctrl+D Deletes a node.

Keyboard shortcut Description
Alt+0 Displays a hover window in the text editor that lists the keyboard shortcuts.
Alt+F10 Enters the toolbar or the tab list of the currently open window.
Tab or Right Arrow Moves to the next toolbar icon, menu option, window element, or window tab.
Tab or Down Arrow Moves to the next list or menu option.
Shift+Tab or Left Arrow Moves to the previous toolbar icon, menu option, window element, or window tab.
Shift+Tab or Up Arrow Moves to the previous list or menu option.
Space or Enter Activates a toolbar icon, menu option, list option, or a window tab after it is selected. This shortcut can also navigate through the submenu of a menu, if one is available.
Alt+Shift+M

Toggles the collapsed or expanded state of the sidebars on the current page.

Right Arrow and Left Arrow Resizes the width of the sidebar. To resize the width, select the vertical boundary and then use the Right and Left arrows to resize the sidebar.
