Drawing dependencies
You can create more than one dependency between the same
two elements. For example, if you create one dependency from element X
to
element Y
, the default name of the dependency is Y
.
If you create a second dependency between the same two elements, the
second dependency is named Y_0
by default.
Procedure
- Click the Dependency button .
- Click the dependent object.
- Click the object on which it depends. This object also known as the provider.
Results
To rename a dependency, do one of the following actions:
- Open the Features window for the dependency, and type the new name in the Name field.
- In the browser, left-click the dependency whose name you want to change, and type the new name in the text box.
Beginning in release 8.3, an element can be the owner of a dependency between two other elements. Among other uses, this makes it possible to create a dependency from a read-only model element.
If you want to use this option, draw the dependency between the relevant elements and then drag the dependency to a new owner in the model browser. You will be asked if you want to change the source element, change the owner, or change both.
If you try drawing a dependency from a read-only element, the owner of the new dependency will be the next element up in the model hierarchy, for example, the package that owns the read-only element.
