Using the instance line during animation

Right-click an instance line during animation for options.

About this task

When you right-click an instance line during animation, the menu contains the following options:

  • Open Animated Statechart or Open Animated Activity Diagram displays the appropriate animated diagram for selected object.
  • Generate Event opens the Event window so you can generate an event. For more information, see Generating events by using the event generator.
  • Add Breakpoint opens the Breakpoint window, described in Breakpoints.

If the instance line represents more than a single object, these commands are applied to the root object (the object that would have been mapped to the instance line in SingleObject mode).

Note the following information:

  • If any object is added explicitly to a sequence diagram, messages it receives are shown as being received by it (rather than shown as going to the "owner").
  • An instance line that is mapped to an object and its parts do not represent parts that have their own instance lines in the same diagram.
  • A single runtime occurrence such as sending a message is viewed only once in the case of a message relayed to a part by its ports for the owner. For example, if a message is sent to a part by the port of its owner, the message to an instance line that represents the owner and its parts is shown once. In other words, the fact that the message was relayed by the port for the owner is not displayed because logically this is a single occurrence.
