Installing from the launchpad program

The launchpad program provides you with a single location to view release information and start the installation process.

About this task

Use the launchpad program to start the installation in the following scenarios:
  • Installing from an electronic image on your workstation.
  • Installing from an electronic image on a shared drive.

Procedure

  1. Complete the preinstallation tasks described in Pre-installation checklist, if you have not done so already.
  2. Start the launchpad program.
    • For Windows: Run launchpad.bat
    • For Linux®: Run launchpad.sh
  3. When you are ready to begin the installation, click Launch Engineering Method Composer Installer.
Note: If you want to install the product as a non-root user on UNIX systems or as a non-administrator on Windows systems, from the Select user mode for Installation Manager list, select Non-Administrator. When you select Non-Administrator, the software packages will be installed in the user's directory.
  4. If IBM® Installation Manager (IM) is not already installed, the IM panel launches with both IBM installation Manager and Engineering Method Composer packages selected. In this scenario, they are installed in the same IM "run". If there is already an IM installed and its version is later than the version included in the media, the existing IM launches and Engineering Method Composer will be the only package available, and selected. If there is IM installed that is of a lower version than the one in the media, IM will launch with both IM and Engineering Method Composer selected, similar to the scenario where IM is not installed at all. However,in this scenario, IM will be updated to the version installed on the Media. The user will not be able to change the IM directory during this scenario as there will already be an installation directory for the installed IM.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Install Packages wizard to complete the installation. See Installing by using IBM Installation Manager for details.
